Fwd: gallstones-- gall bladder and liver Questions and answers

2006-10-31 22:51:50

Dear friends,
I think this attached narrative from (Mr.) Dusan Stojkovic of Norway gives a
wonderful explantion of how our gall bladder and liver works. He also
explains how their functioning or disfunctioning creates or prevents other
medical problems from occurring. It is one of those valuable resources that
I think many of you will want to keep for future reference. Dusan's personal
website is also something worth looking at. His own personal health story is
very inspiring. Since English is not Dusan's native language, forgive his
errors in usage. The information is still correct, and that is what counts.
He has a great sense of humor, too.

Questions posted to the gallstones@onelist.com.
Just read some old posts and it seems that most people still don't
understand where does gallstones comes from, so I am taking some time to make
it clear once again.
Standard Questions:
1. My gallbladder(GB) was removed, I did cleanse and I got hundreds of
stones out ? 2. I saw few stones inside my GB on ultrasound, I did
cleanse and I got hundreds of stones out ? 3. I am cleansing , and
cleansing and still getting stones out ? 4. I never had gallstones, I
did cleanse and I got hundreds of stones out ? 5. I had no symptoms of
gallstones, I did cleanse and I got hundreds of stones out ?
Answer on all the questions is the same:
At least 80% of people older then 30 have intrahepatic stones, that we
on this forum use to call "gallstones" as there is no big difference
beetween stones inside liver and stones inside GB.
Gallstones are always first created inside liver !
Gallstones inside gallbladder(GB) have always first started it's
creation inside liver (intrahepatic bile ducts = tubes inside your
liver)!!!
Then , they "roll" down to the GB, where they may continue growing,
until they take all the place inside your GB.
People have operated gallstones as big as 5 cm across. (2 inch)

Hi, Earl. When will your website be updated? What is the address? Have you
gotten any lab tests done to determine whether thyrodine contains any
fluoride? I would love to use your supplement, but I really need to make
sure there's no fluoride in it yet.
Is a doctor's prescription required to obtain progesterone? I recently heard
from another mother of an autistic child that she got good results from
progesterone cream on her son. I've been curious about it ever since.
Another mother of an autistic child told me that her daughter had a very bad
regression when she got a TSH test, so I have decided not to take my son to a
doctor for a TSH test. He has made so many gains on his own that I feel it
would be foolish to cause a regression in order to get a prescription for a
synthetic drug. I would much rather use natural methods to get his thyroid
functioning.
I've had no luck so far in finding an iodide supplement that is guaranteed to
be fluoride free. Do you know of any other natural sources of iodine besides
sea vegetables or fish? What a shame that we're poisoning our oceans this
way.
I do have good news to report. My son had his first fever since the fluoride
poisoning 2 years ago. We all got the flu over Christmas, and he surprised
us by getting a fever just like we did. In the past, he never did get
fevers. I take this as a sign that his thyroid is healing since we stopped
consuming fluoridated water Oct. 30. After all, his body could not produce a
fever unless his thyroid was functioning.

tests

2006-10-31 03:37:41

Hi Earl,
Could you elaborate on that statement please? Why do you think blood tests
are invalid? Do you think it's not true that if your thyroid is not
producing enough thyroid hormone, that your body increases the amount of
TSH to attempt to get the thyroid to produce more hormone?
And if thyroid tests are invalid, how does one ever get a diagnosis?
Did you ever post any references for thyrodine that I could contact?
Thanks -

Dear Ira:
1-Thank you for all the referrals to great references you've been providing.
2-Armour: I guess you could call dessicated [dried] pig thyroid
glands...natural!!
Creutzfeld-jacob disease is a real worry these days and should cause some
question as to possible ingestion of this devastating brain disease [prions]
from any meat source.
The one thought I've tried to establish on this list is that..."replacement
therapy" is almost never necessary and certainly not desirable.
If a person has an underactive thyroid, adrenal glands, thymus or pancreas,
the body does not want these hormones... "replaced"! What the body wants is
for someone to ask: WHY are the glands not functioning as they should??
Thyroid: in the case of hypothyroidism, the most useful answer is: the
thyroid lacks iodine, B6, zinc, selenium, manganese, trace elements and 'B'
vitamins, tyrosine and maybe glutamine.
When you supply these elements [Thyrodine], the thyroid generally returns to
full function once again.
Adrenals: when the adrenals are 'stuffed' from excess stress, then licorice,
ginger, ginseng and some Chinese herbs act to restore adrenal function again
[it would also be useful to reduce the stress].
Pancreas: when the pancreas is dysfunctional then either low blood sugar or
diabetes exists.
Here we generally have an avalanche of a-free radicals brought about by:
unsaturated oils, like: sunflower, safflower, soy, canola and even flax oil.
b-most junk foods
c-all drugs
d-iron compounds, especially medically prescribed iron tablets [which seem
to be routinely prescribed to all pregnant women].
e-stress
f-amalgam tooth fillings
g-fluoride and chlorine in water
h-nuclear power plants
i-microwaved food and high power lines
More and more folks are beginning to take responsibility for their own
health and not depending on some pharmaceutically trained "doctor" to put
them on drugs that only mask symptoms and continue the deterioration of the
system in trouble.
When someone has many symptoms one could ask...why do I have these symptoms.
Realize that nutrition may be the number one cause of ill health. The
computer adage applies here very well.
Junk in, junk out!
People who eat 50% to 70% raw food, organically grown, avoid meat, milk,
eggs, cheese and junk food, use raw juices, and supplement with spirulina,
chlorella, barleygreen or any of the green powders, kelp and pollen, tend to
have minimal health problems.
Hope this is of some help

After two weeks of INTERNET HELL, my websites are back online.
You can now catch up on the hungerstrike daily diary entries
and Dairy Education Board news:
http://www.hungerstrike.com http://www.notmilk.com
Today's diary entry should be read by every woman in America.
Perhaps you could send the following to every woman on your LOVE
and LIKE list:
CONQUERING BREAST CANCER IN THREE DAYS
Today is the 64th day of my hunger strike.
An enormous breast cancer controversy is developing between traditional
medical practitioners, who benefit from the existing multi-billion
dollar yearly breast cancer rip-off, and real science, which has proven
that mammography does more damage than good.
THE REASON THEY LIE: GOT MONEY?
Very rarely does the mainstream press report the existing milk/IGF-I
link to breast cancer. Wonder why? Newspapers, magazines, television,
and radio all derive revenue from companies extolling the fraudulent
virtues of milk and dairy products. Pizza Hut uses three percent of
America's yearly milk production. Dannon Yogurt and Ben & Jerry's Ice
Cream help pay the rent, utilities, and salaries of those who pretend to
bring America the truth in their daily news.
HOW MANY WOMEN ACTUALLY HAVE BREAST CANCER?
Thousands of chemicals and events have been implicated as being a cause
of cancer, but one thing makes it grow once a woman is unfortunate to be
so stricken. That key factor happens to be the most powerful growth
hormone produced in the human body, insulin-like growth factor-I or
IGF-I. The great miracle of nature is that IGF-I is identical between
humans and cows. On November 8, 1994, the New York Times reported that
breast cancer is actually a very common event. An autopsy study
revealed that 39.6% of women between the ages of 40 and 50 have breast
cancer. That is horrible news for women and wonderful news for those
who make a living performing breast cancer analyses and treatment.
The fact of the matter is that most breast cancers are naturally
controlled by our miraculous immune systems. Cancers always begin with
one cell. Every three months that cancer doubles in size, so that after
one year the cancer grows to sixteen cells.
Eight years later, a breast cancer becomes a one-million cell tumor, the
smallest lump a woman can detect in her breast Cellular examination
upon autopsy reveals the common presence of breast cancer, but clinical
diagnoses result in only one percent of women in the 40-50 age group
being dignosed with breast cancer.
The key factor in breast cancer's growth, like pouring gasoline on a
fire, is IGF-I. Milk, cheese, yogurt, ice cream---all dairy products
are loaded with this powerful growth hormone.
A STUDY OF 500,000 WOMEN
A new study published in the British medical journal, LANCET, compiled
data from 500,000 women since the 1960's and found that mammography is
not only an ineffective tool, it might very well be a factor in causing
breast cancer.
The study found that for every 1,000 women who receive a mammography,
one life is saved. On the other hand, a woman having a mammography will
have a six hundred percent greater chance of getting breast cancer, by
exposing her breasts to a "safe level of radioactivity." Safe level?
That's easy for a man to say. If I was a woman, I'd be pretty
unhappy about exposing my breasts to once-a-year doses of radioactive
poison.
Science devises tests to find breast cancer earlier. Is that such a
good thing? All adults over the age of 50 have cancer (New York Times,
11/8/94, P C-1). Instead of ingesting the key factor five times each
day, IGF-I, shouldn't all women practice the NOTMILK preventive therapy?
GENETIC ENGINEERING MAKES A BAD PRODUCT WORSE
When cows are treated with Monsanto's genetically engineered bovine
growth hormone (rbGH), levels of IGF-I in their milk increase by about
80%. Women who drink milk experience an increase, systemically, of
IGF-I in their blood serum by a factor of ten percent.
SOLVING THE PROBLEM
Today's New York Times (Sunday, January 9, 2000) contains a full-page ad
for AVON'S "Breast Cancer 3-Day" event. This is a national effort, and
women in America's major cities will be making a collective
statement this Fall.
In New York, two thousand women will walk 25 miles per day from October
13th-15th, starting at Bear Mountain, New York and ending their march in
midtown Manhattan. If you wish to join their protest, call 888-332-9286
or read about breast cancer on their website:
http://www.breastcancer3day.org
WHAT YOU CAN DO
Please contact these people who have great passion and anger. Let them
know about milk and IGF-I. Tell them about our hunger strike. March
with them. Teach the ignorant about the IGF-I/milk factor. AND SEND

RE: (unknown)

Daer Patti:
Your symptoms are multi-factorial, meaning that many conditions exist
together.
I constsntly hear of people having their thyroid destroyed...which kind of
closes the door on any rational approach, unless some cells have managed to
maintain activity. In that instance, sometimes a north pole field of a
magnet may induce greater growth of the thyroid tissues when a product
Thyrodine could bring back some form of normal function, probably in
conjunction with natural progesterone.
Your symptoms also suggest intestinal toxicity, low blood sugar and most
likely estrogen dominance.
You may wish to consider consulting with a naturopathic doctor who could
investigate all these potential problems. I don't consider blood tests for
thyroid function to have any validity whatever. And dependence on synthetic
hormones or pig derived leave much to be desired.
In your case, pig [Armour} may be your best bet, until your thyroid could be
assessed for regenerative possibilities by a competent naturopath.

Bowel Movements should float???

2006-10-29 23:48:20

This has been copied and pasted from Dr. Mercola's website www.mercola.com
He believes that stools should float in the toilet. There was a discussion a
few months ago about this very subject. I guess that is one of those things
that even the so called experts do not agree upon. Make up your own mind.
Ira M. Fine
iramfine@...
Bowel Movements
It will be very important to have two to three bowel movements a day.
Ideally they should be effortless and odorless and float in the toilet bowl.
If your bowel movements are not at this frequency let us know as we can
recommend additional treatments. Magnesium is especially helpful. We have a
150 mg Magnesium Citrate. Please start your dose at one tablet twice a day.
You can increase this to four tablets twice a day (two grams) if necessary.
You can go up to eight per day in divided doses for severe cases. Diarrhea is
the only side effect of magnesium and one can easily reduce the dose if this
occurs. If the magnesium does not work, you can also use aloe vera capsules.

Hi:
First time posting. Has everyone discussed how they feel or the symptoms
that are making them feel bad.
After having my thyroid radiated a year ago, this has been nothing but a
roller coaster ride. I still have only had one day in a year that I have
felt well. My synthoid medicene has been adjusted every 6 weeks.
Do any of you have these symptoms:
1.Breaking nails
2.Low immune system, so that I catch everything that goes around
3.Muscles that ache all the time and make it painful to move.
4.Swelling in hands so that I can't make a fist.
5.Extreme pain in right hand when moving thumb and first finger.
6.Uncontrollable hair. A friz Ball
7.Always fatigued, have to sleep after work, every day.
8.Absolutely NO energy, a big push to do anything.
9.Inability to be sharp mentally, feel like I'm in a fog.
10.The more I exercise the weaker I get.
11.My tongue needs to be scraped every morning from the thyroid medicene.
12.No sex drive
13.Pulse rate that is racing. 95 at complete rest and 120 at any movement.
What has everyone done to feel better and deal with this??
Was told by someone that I should be having a thyroid panel, which includes
three tests but i only have the one test called TSH
I asked for a sheet on the results
Here is what it said:
TSH High (13.97) Units (mU/ml) Ref (.30) Range (5.00)
I am not feeling any better then I did before they radiated me.
Can't find anyone to talk to me about the pulse rate or do anything about
it.

Microwaved food contribute to thyroid deficiency

2006-10-29 12:17:30

This has been copied and pasted from Dr. Mercola's website:
www.mercola.com
Ira
Do Not Microwave to Cook or Heat up Food!
Microwaves can seriously deplete foods of their nutrients. Even worse,
microwaved food may cause pathological changes in your body. It is no
surprise that microwave heating of food results in losses of nutrients
because all heating methods do this. However, microwave heating appears to
produce the greatest losses. Microwaves are high frequency electromagnetic
waves that alternate in positive and negative directions causing vibration of
food molecules up to 2.5 billion times per second. This creates friction and
heat, which can destroy the fragile structure of vitamins and enzymes. Once
their structure is altered, they can not perform their desired function in
your body. Clinical studies show that microwave heating of milk or cooking of
vegetables is associated with a decline in hemoglobin levels. These
reductions may contribute to anemia, rheumatism, fever, and thyroid deficiency
.

Dear Sabra:
The primary thyroid inhibitors are:
1-most medically prescribed and street drugs
2-chlorine and fluoride in water
3-amalgam tooth fillings
4-unfermented soy products like, soy milk, tofu, or soy beans themselves,
miso and tamari are fermented, therefore OK
5-brassicas: however, brassicas... cauliflower, broccoli, brussels
sprouts, cabbage are OK if they are
steamed or lightly cooked.
6-stress through stimulation of cortisol---
less thyroid hormone.
These anti-thyroid agents are easy to avoid or to work with.

I haven't been reading the mail from this list very much lately so forgive

A while back you were reporting about your cutting back and quitting the
Synthroid. You said you were feeling well, etc etc, and that you had had a

blood test but didn't know the results yet.
Did you ever get the results? If so what were they? I would really like it
if you could keep this list informed of your TSH levels since quitting your

Also, Earl, did you ever post any medical references of practitioners who
give thyrodine to their patients? If you did, could you post them again,

Dear Earl, I am ashamed to say that I have not been as regulated as I should
be in taking the thyrodine. I was for the first month and then as life got
complicated I slipped into some poor habits. (sleeping, diet etc.)
I did cut back on the armour by 1/4 with some slight adversity in the first
few days such as skipped heart beat now and then but no palpitation. I never
did get a guide line for optimal diet for hypo-thyroid other than a list of
foods to avoid.I have found that I have gained some weight also which is not
good but I can attribute a good deal of that to stress. My baby niece
Mikayla, I think I wrote to you about her, Was born with Rabdomio
sarchoma, aviliar We have fought a long hard battle for 2 1/2 years but it is
at last taking over her little body. She is in much pain and It seems when I
am under extream stress my body wants to shut down or freeze up. I am using

Dear Sabra:
May I have some feedback from you. You've taken the Thyrodine which will
restore thyroid function. Armour is a pig thyroid gland, a replacement,
which allows continued degeneration of the thyroid.
Have you found that you can discontinue the Armour as you progressed with
the Thyrodine??
Do you imagine that if the Thyrodine has not been that successful that
perhaps you may need to utilize some progesterone as well??
Thyroid and progesterone work synergistically, or together to overcome
estrogen dominance.
Specific questions:
1-What effects have you noted since taking Thyrodine?
2-are you taking any form of natural progesterone?
On an upcoming revision of the Thyrodine web site, we are advocating that
women utilize a newly developed progesterone spray together with Thyrodine,
as both hormones are very crucial.
look forward to your commentary.

Hi,
Besides replying to this question myself, I am forwarding it to the
hypothyroidism@onelist.com mailing list for possible replies by members of
that list.
I have been taking 15mg or 30 mg of Armour thyroid for about 11 years. I am
subclinically hypothyroid which means that my blood tests were all in the
normal, but low, range. My doctor is nutritional and holistically oriented,
and he accepts the theories of Dr. Broda Barnes about the body temperature of
the basal metabolism test as adequate proof of hypothyroidism. Quite often,
I forget to take my Armour thyroid, and when I remember, it may be any time
of the day. I suffer from extreme insomnia, so I may not even get out of bed
until noon or later. I have not noticed any kinds of interactions with other
medications or supplements, but I am not very tuned into my body either.

Questions And Answers
More On Thyroid
Kelly-Anne writes: I have read your report on hypothyroidism and was very
interested in your findings. My question is this: I was diagnosed with this
complaint a couple of months ago and was immediately given Synthroid, firstly
100 then raised to 112. The doctor then informed me I was at normal levels
and fine. I have been still suffering from tiredness, I have been on a strict
diet for almost 3 weeks and I'm not losing weight, my skin is still dry and
my voice gets hoarse by the end of the day, although my nails and hair are
growing very well.
My thyroid test results are:
Free T4 1.3 ref range 0.5-2.0 UG/DL
TSH 0.6 ref range 0.3-5.0 uIU/ML
I immediately noticed that I haven't had all three tests. I'm female, aged 33
and currently weigh 245 lbs after gaining 50 lbs in weight, I would REALLY
appreciate your ideas and/or someone you could recommend me to. I await your
response and look forward to hearing from you. Warmest Regards
DM COMMENT: You did not obtain a Free T3, which is very important to the
proper evaluation. Normally Synthroid (T4) does not convert to T3 in most
people. I suspect that is an issue with you also. The other concern is that
it is likely that your adrenals are not working properly. So one needs to
follow a no sugar, no milk, no grain, no juice diet (see my home page
www.mercola.com Read This First tab). I find many people think that they are
following an appropriate diet, but in fact are thoroughly confused about what
is optimal. It is the rare new patient I see how really understands how to
eat optimally. You should rigidly follow the diet guidelines at
www.mercola.com under Read This First. After the diet, getting to bed before
10 PM and having a method of addressing stress are critical. If those steps
are followed, the next step would be to have your adrenals evaluated by
someone who works with BioHealth Diagnostics 800-570-2000.
Personal Consultations With Dr. Mercola
The most important step you could take for improving your physical health
would be to go to Dr. Mercola's web site at www.mercola.com and apply the
recommendations under the tab on the left entitled, "Read This First." That
is the essential first step. If your health problems are not better and you
are unable to find a physician to implement Dr. Mercola's recommendations, he
accepts new patients who are willing to make the dietary changes necessary to
reverse chronic illness. He sees many patients from out of state and his
staff can coordinate a visit for you. Dr. Mercola will also be doing phone
consultations for the last two weeks in January. To schedule one for
yourself, you may call Denise or Jennifer, the new patient coordinators, at
847-985-1777.

SUBSTANTIAL DIVERGENCE
On this 50th day of my hunger strike, I have learned a new secret, and I
am very greatly concerned.
While anti-biotech protestors were rioting in the streets of Seattle, a
new episode in the continuing saga of Monsanto's revolving door tactics
quietly developed beyond FDA's "palace" doors.
Somebody may be breaking the law, participating in unethical activity at
the least, insider trading and influence, betrayal of our health
interests, and the time has come for us to ask: "What's up?"
The same grandiloquent question that Bugs Bunny asks Elmer Fudd can
fittingly be asked of our scientists and government regulators: "What's
up, Doc?"
Appropriately, that question should also be directed to the president of
Monsanto, Robert Shapiro. "What's up, Bob?"
Actually, as we get closer to asking this very same question to the
guiltiest of conspirators, we have discovered a source of future ills in
the nick of time. Knowing the proper question to ask might very well
nip the problem deep within the pollen of its genetically engineered
bud.
THE REAL ENEMY
Today, on this first day after Christmas, let us ask together, "What's
up, John." You might be wondering just who this John fellow is.
Actually, it's UPJOHN. You might ask, "What's up, John?" Well, I'm
gonna tell you. Activists of the world, unite. We have met the enemy.
(UPJOHN is not where I want you to stick your proverbial placards and
banners of protest. Not yet, anyway.)
When Monsanto first presented their research to the FDA for approval of
the genetically engineered bovine growth hormone (rbGH), there were also
three other pharmaceutical companies with their own different versions
of the genetically modified organism.
Monsanto's protein formula was different than the naturally occurring
bovine growth hormone. Monsanto's hormone was not an exact version of
the natural pituitary extract from a cow. The end amino acid (amino
acids are the building blocks of proteins) was just a little bit
different than what naturally occurs in nature. Actually, it was VERY
different, but Monsanto neglected to reveal all of their secrets until
after their drug received official FDA approval.
THE MAGICIANS PERFORMED THEIR SLEIGHT-OF-HAND TRICK
Monsanto received approval for rbGH on Friday, February 4, 1994. There
must have been quite a celebration in their St. Louis corporate
headquarters on that day. Perhaps the celebration continued through the
weekend. What happened the following Monday provides the "smoking gun"
evidence to Monsanto's crime. On Monday, a group of Monsanto scientists
photocopied, collated and stapled together the most incriminating
scientific document in history and sent it to a peer-review journal for
publication. On Thursday of that week, the journal "PROTEIN SCIENCE"
officially received Monsanto's study.
In that paper, Monsanto admitted that they made significant errors in
their formula. WHAT'S UP, JOHN?
What's up, doc? Monsanto waited until after approval, just in case, to
admit their errors. After approval, Monsanto admitted that the errors
were fixed. However, in making this no-win admission, Monsanto also
revealed that all of the research submitted to FDA from 1985 until 1993
was performed with a different hormone than the one that is currently on
the market.
Funny creatures, these scientists. Most of the authors of the study
worked for Monsanto. Most, but not all.
A few researchers were with other firms. One researcher, located after
three phone calls told me that he worked for Monsanto nearly two years
before the hormone was approved. Then he made a number of career moves,
but still received credit for his work in co-authorship. What does this
prove? Simply, that Monsanto knew the errors were made, but held off
until after approval. By leaving the firm, the co-author placed a time
stamp upon when the "crime" was actually known, and when it was
committed.
Monsanto's genetically engineered bovine growth hormone (trade name =
POSILAC) has never been tested on a laboratory animal. Nor as it been
tested on a cow.
Before approval, the FDA required Monsanto to perform hundreds of
millions of dollars worth of new research. Equivalent in 1989 did not
mean that a perfect match existed. The other three pharmaceutical
companies elected not to continue with their research. Eli Lilly had
created a bovine growth hormone with seven additional amino acids.
American Cyanamid created a version with three new amino acids. Now to
the theme of this column. UPJOHN's version was an exact duplicate of
what naturally occurs in nature. Exact by 1990 standards, that is.
The reason that this holds so much significance is that MONSANTO and
UPJOHN will soon be merging into one very large company. Criminal
co-conspirators will be committing a crime together, and then they'll
change their name and identity. Will you even recognize the crime?
You most certainly will by reading the rest of this column!
UPJOHN's version of the bovine growth hormone was "supposedly" identical
to the hormone naturally manufactured in a cow's brain.
UPJOHN has recently applied to FDA for approval of their hormone, based
upon the theory of "substantial equivalence." I learned about UPJOHN'S
application early Thursday morning. Their application is so secret that
FDA will not even confirm that it has been made. On that Thursday
before Christmas, I requested the file number from an employee at the
Center for Veterinary Medicine (CVM), FDA's investigative branch. She
put me on hold and spoke to the director, Stephen Sundlof. After a
minute, she came back and apologized. "We cannot reveal the file number
until the drug is approved." I was stunned by their secrecy. By that
time, it will be too late. After that phone conversation, I filed a
Freedom of Information Act request for the case file. Will I be denied?
Time will tell.
UPJOHN'S application and FDA's review is based upon substantial fraud,
not substantial equivalence.
Genetic engineering is not a perfect science. When cow hormones are
combined with E. coli bacteria, one of the resulting amino acids often
becomes a freak. That amino acid, LYSINE, has an acetyl group added to
it. Chemists call this process "acetylization."
Suffice it to say that this is a big errorā¦one small error for Monsanto
and UPJOHN, one giant OOPS for mankind.
Monsanto created five freak amino acids. UPJOHN most certainly did the
same. In 1990, FDA reviewers did not have the sophisticated tests
necessary to detect such errors. New technology provides those tests
today. Rubber stamping UPJOHN's application because of substantial
equivalence cannot be allowed to occur. There is no substantial
equivalence when mistakes occur. Monsanto should repeat their research.
UPJOHN did not receive approval in 1990, and chose not to invest
hundreds of millions of dollars to gain approval. They should not be
given a free pass today.
We cannot, must not, will not let FDA apply their doctrine of
substantial equivalence to UPJOHN. We have discovered Monsanto's plan,
and are not happy that these two schemers long ago applied to FDA for
approval, while discussing merger talks. Their intent is clear.
Deceive, divide, and conquer.
There has got to be a law!

Hi everyone
If you haven't read it already, pick up a copy of "The Thyroid Solution" by
Dr. Ridha Arem. It is great! He goes into a lot of detail about the many
symptoms that thyroid conditions can cause and especially the mental/mood
symptoms that can be so tough to deal with.
He explains all types of thyroid conditions and the tests you can have and
the ways of treating them. He writes in an easy to understand manner
without oversimplifying anything. He makes dietary and lifestyle
recommendations as well.
This physician is a nationally recognized thyroid specialist. I have
learned a lot from the book, and it's a great reference for when you're
trying to understand your symptoms or your test results!
wishing you all a happy winter solstice,

topic posts not relative to hypothyroidism or health.
WOW!!! Interesting perspective...And one that might have never occurred
to me. ...and understandable considering our counting system uses a base
10, (except for computers.)
This might also be comparable to the conception and birth of a baby. Upon
conception, one might say that the baby's age is a negative 9 months (+ or -)
, and the baby would not be one year old until a full year passed from the
date of his/her birth. The baby would never actually have an age of zero. A
newborn can be seconds old, but I do not think I have ever heard of a new
born being called age zero at birth.
Then again, the entire concept of time is human. In military time, one
minute before midnight is 2359 hours, and midnight, if I remember correctly,
is 2400 hours. But what would they call 10 seconds after midnight??? Would
it be zero hours and 10 seconds??? or 24hours and ten seconds??? I have
been out of the military for 32 years, and I just do not remember.

Also, my face has not stopped breaking out. Any suggestions for that?

Ira, I disagree. An N.D. I went to years ago told me that stools
float if you're not digesting your fats and I find this personally to
be true. I can get away with eating a certain amount of fried foods,
like fish, with using as little canola oil as possible, but if I
overdo that my stool will float, or sometimes just part of it. Eating
a Tbls. or so of flaxseed oil never causes it, however, and I'm
wondering if some oils become indigestible when heated in a skillet
while others usually digest okay. I try to stay away from anything
with hydrogenated oil listed on the label and I never, never eat
french fries as I cannot digest the oil and my stool will float.
As to color, this changes depending upon what I eat and the amount
that moves through me in a given day. If only once, then the color
is dark brown, as you state, but my usual twice a day is medium brown
unless I've been eating beets, when it turns a darker reddish brown.
If I eat apricots it gets lighter. I find the more movements per day
then the less the diameter and length. I rather prefer them that way
instead of plugging up the toilet like my 40 yr. old step-son does.
We keep the plunger handy when he visits! :) I do agree with you as
to odor if a person eats lots of hamburgers and meat, especially
when comercially raised. It smells worse than a large feed lot of
cows. Yours for better digestion. I've been working on it for 75
years and there really is improvement from the day I was born.

Hi, All,
I have noticed that the ingredients on many liquid mineral supplements sold
at health food stores contain aluminum, lead, cadmium, and other questionable
known toxic metals which naturally occur in the earth. I have questioned
whether or not there are mineral supplements available without these toxic
metals present. I have been told that these metals when naturally occuring
in the earth are not only not harmful or toxic to our bodies, but are
actually necessary for us to have for good health. If they are in an
inorganic state, can they be absorbed by our bodies? I have also been told
that plants growing use the inorganic minerals found in the soil and use them
to grow. These inorganic minerals are converted by the plants to an organic
form that our bodies can use when we eat the plants.
I do not know what to believe.

Hi, Gang,
I have a distiller which I use for all of my drinking and cooking water. I
think it is the most superior way to produce pure drinking water. I also
have an Amway solid carbon block water filter which I run the water I put
into the distiller through first. The Amway filter is very good. The
distiller mimics the way water is purified in nature. Have you ever
considered that there is no such thing as new water being made??? The water
you are now using has been here since the earth was created. It is merely
recycled over and over again by nature. The distiller I have is a large
capacity stainless steel which can produce 5 gallons of pure water in a 20
hour period. I also have a second table top model which will produce one
gallon in about 10 hours. This was bought at Sears, and I am very happy with
it also. I do not recall the price, but it was reasonable compared to the
large capacity distiller.
I live in Eastern Pennsylvania, and three miles away is an EPA super cleanup
site, the NJ Zinc Corporation, in Palmerton, PA. After smelting and refining
of zinc for many decades, the byproducts being lead and cadmium, the Blue
Mountain and the Lehigh River are both disaster areas. The mountain is
totally defoliated, and the Lehigh River will not support fish for very
long. The ground water is supposedly safe to drink, according to the
municipal water authority, but after seeing the local populace with many
cases of retardation and birth defects and cancer, I will not drink the local
water.
The only drawback to drinking distilled water is that it is free of any
minerals, so I supplement my drinking water with liquid minerals.

Earl, I'm sorry, but I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on natural
fluoride. I agree that the fluoride compounds being added to water
supplies,
which are actually by-products of industry, are dangerous and impure.
However, the behavior of the fluoride ion in the body is destructive,
whether
it is from natural sources or industrial byproducts. Also, regardless of
the
source, it accumulates in the body over time. My research has taught me
this, but my personal experience bears it out. For instance, I get a
terrible, painful stomach ache when I drink fluoridated water, regardless if
the water is naturally or artificially fluoridated.
Linda M.
Hello, Linda, Earl, and all other listmembers,
Could anyone clarify for me the difference between fluoride and fluorine? I
looked up fluoride in my Webster's Merriam dictionary, and it said "1. a
compound of fluorine with a more electropositive element or group. 2. the
monovalent anion of fluorine." Fluorine is defined as "an nonmetallic
halogen element that is isolated as a pale yellowish flammable irritating
toxic diatomic gas - see ELEMENT TABLE" Neither one sounds too appealing to
me.
I had one course in Chemistry in high school back in 1961, and it was not my
best subject. Although I think the dictionary definitions are probably
correct, they do not give me any real understandable information as it
relates to the fluoridated water or ingesting of any kind of fluorine or
fluoride, naturally-occurring or otherwise.
If anyone has anything in the way of reference material they could refer me
to which might help me to understand this issue more clearly, it would be
appreciated.
There is another similar controversy about aluminum. I had been told that
the inorganic aluminum that occurs naturally in the earth as a mineral would
not be harmful to our bodies. In fact, it is supposedly a beneficial and
necessary mineral in trace amounts, or so I have been told. However the
aluminum in cookware such as pots and pans or coffee makers that leach out
into the food or acidic water is of a questionable threat to one's health.
By the way, all of the Mr. Coffee style automatic coffee maker brands use an
aluminum tank, except for one: Bunn makes a unit for home use with a
stainless steel tank and copper connections. My wife will only use stainless
steel or cast iron cookware. My mother always used aluminum pots and pans,
and she developed senile dementia, probably Alzheimers Disease.
Then there is the explanation I have also heard about organic vs inorganic
minerals: The plants that grow take the inorganic minerals found in the
earth and use it and convert it into an organic form which our bodies can
assimilate and use. Supposedly our bodies can not use inorganic minerals
from the earth directly, but we can use and need the organic form which comes
from eating our raw vegetables.
It seems that the more I study, the more confused I get as to what to
believe. It is interesting and curious that even so many of the "experts"
who believe in alternative medicine disagree on so many things.
My regular computer will hopefully be fixed and working within a couple of
days. The computer that I am using now does not have any of my email
addresses or previously stored emails or reference materials in my files
available to me.
My thanks to all who participate in this group.

Dear All:
perhaps this message has no relation to hypothyroidism but maybe it has even
more significance because it relates to a fundamental travesty against women
which we need to address...somehow. Please send this on to whomever you feel
will take on the job of doing something, anything to alleviate the insane
condition of these martyrs.

Subject: Human Rights
The plight of women in Afganistan under the Taliban:
The government of Afghanistan is waging a war upon women. Since the
Taliban took power in 1996, women have had to wear burqua and have been
beaten and stoned in public for not having the proper attire, even if this
means simply not having the mesh covering in front of their eyes.
One woman was beaten to DEATH by an angry mob of fundamentalists for
accidentally exposing her arm while she was driving. Another was stoned to
death for trying to leave the country with a man that was not a relative.
Women are not allowed to work or even go out in public without a male
relative; professional women such as professors, translators, doctors,
lawyers, artists and writers have been forced from their jobs and stuffed
into their homes, so that depression is becoming so widespread that it has
reached emergency levels.
There is no way in such an extreme Islamic society to know the suicide rate
with certainty, but relief workers are estimating that the suicide rate
among women, who cannot find proper medication and treatment for severe
depression and would rather take their lives than live in such conditions,
has increased significantly.
Homes where a woman is present must have their windows painted so that she
can never be seen by outsiders. They must wear silent shoes so that they are
never heard. Women live in fear of their lives for the slightest
misbehaviour.
Because they cannot work, those without male relatives or
husbands are either starving to death or begging on the street, even if they
hold Ph.D.'s.
There are almost no medical facilities available for women, and relief
workers, in protest, have mostly left the country, taking medicine and
psychologists and other things necessary to treat the sky-rocketing level of
depression among women.
At one of the rare hospitals for women, a reporter found still, nearly
lifeless bodies lying motionless on top of beds, wrapped in their burqua,
unwilling to speak, eat, or do anything, but slowly wasting away. Others
have gone mad and were seen crouched in corners, perpetually rocking or
crying, most of them in fear. One doctor is considering, when what little
medication that is left finally runs out, leaving these women in front of
the president's residence as a form of peaceful protest. It is at the point
where the term 'human rights violations' has become an understatement.
Husbands have the power of life and death over their women relatives,
beat a woman, often to death, for exposing an inch of flesh or offending
them in the slightest way.
Women enjoyed relative freedom, to work, dress generally as they wanted, and
drive and appear in public alone until only 1996. The rapidity of this
transition is the main reason for the depression and suicide; women who were
once educators or doctors or simply used to basic human freedoms are now
severely restricted and treated as sub-human in the name of right- wing
fundamentalist Islam. It is not their tradition or 'culture', but is alien
to them, and it is extreme even for those cultures where fundamentalism is
the rule.
veryone has a right to a tolerable human existence, even if they re women in
a Muslim country. If we can threaten military force in Kosovo in the name of
human rights for the sake of ethnic Albanians, citizens of the world can
certainly express peaceful outrage at the oppression, murder and injustice
committed against women by the Taliban.
STATEMENT: In signing this, we agree that the current treatment of women in
Afghanistan is completely UNACCEPTABLE and deserves support and action by
the United Nations and that the current situation overseas will not be
tolerated. Women's Rights is not a small issue anywhere and it is
UNACCEPTABLE for women in 1999 to be treated as sub-human and as so much
property. Equality and human decency is a RIGHT not a freedom, whether one
lives in Afghanistan or elsewhere.

ingredient in soy products that can suppress thyroid function. And we don't

As WEBmaster of NOTMILK.com and HungerStrike.com I have been
asked by a number of concerned citizens to provide a list of
things folks can do, either in addition to joining the fast,
or in lieu of it.
1. First and foremost is spreading the word... with a primary
focus on getting MEDIA attention such that they will
adequately report the facts which have led to this
hungerstrike.
To that end... call, write, or Email your local media. Tell
them:
"There is a group of world citizens who are calling attention
to the genetically engineered bovine growth hormone that
caused cancer in the dairy cow test subjects. In addition, it
increases the levels of the powerful hormone "insulin-like
growth factor ONE (IGF-1)" in all cow's milk, a substance that
figures prominently in the rapid growth and proliferation of
mammary, prostate and colon cancers.
I am very concerned about this health issue, especially for
the children, and I support the hungerstrike and its goal for
the immediate recall of Monsanto's "Posilac" hormone shot."

Official PRESS RELEASE!
PRESS RELEASE
On November 7, 1999, Robert Cohen began a hunger
strike to draw attention to the fact that America's
milk and dairy products are now hazardous to
consumers' health. Hundreds of people around the
world have already joined Robert Cohen on his hunger
strike, and there will be thousands more.
http://www.hungerstrike.com
Mr. Cohen has filed a suit (FDA citizen's petition -
docket #99P-4613) to remove Monsanto's genetically
engineered bovine growth hormone (rbGH) from the
market claiming that it poses a serious health risk
to all humans.
According to Cohen:
1) Monsanto made an error by creating a "freak"
amino acid
2) Lab animals treated with rbGH got cancer
3) Levels of hormones in rbGH-treated milk increase
4) Blood serum levels of milk hormones increase in
milk drinkers

RE: allergy or intolerance to iodine

2006-10-16 13:25:09

Dear Ira:
Reactions to iodine were reported from IV administration, as I recall. When
any substance is given IV that by-passes all the body's defences.
Potassium iodide is the usual form of iodine that is available from any drug
store and in iodised salt. I am aware of some adverse reactions to KI
[potassium iodide] having beeen reported.
The iodine in Thyrodine is not KI but a form that has been in use for over
60 years with no reports of adverse reactions I am aware of.
Of course, kelp or norri or any other seaweed is a good source.
My experience has been that if a person is hypothyroid, kelp will rarely
overcome the problem.Thyrodine will restore thyroid function and then kelp
will maintain correct function indefinitely as long as a person avoids
drugs, unfermented soy products, fluorine and chlorine and follows a good
nutritional program.
Thanks for all the good posts Ira.
best wishes,
Earl

JAMA Stats Tell the Tale (Journal of the American Medical Association)
Doctors kill more people than guns and traffic accidents
by Don Harkins
SANDPOINT -- Last St. Patrick's Day, Sandpoint Chiropractor Blaze Welch
gave a lecture on how to get off of the disease scary-go-round at the
Gardenia Center here. The purpose of the talk, which was sponsored by the
North Idaho chapter of Vaccination Liberation, was to teach people that
they are responsible for their own health. Dr. Welch also discussed figures
from right out of the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA)
which prove, through accurate interpretations of their own words, that in
the last century we chose the wrong fork in the road with regard to our
health care paradigm.
Most people have been conditioned to believe in what is called the germ
theory of disease -- that germs cause disease. The truth is that germs
(bacteria) are everywhere and they are attracted to and proliferate in
diseased tissues.
Bacteria decompose dead matter. That is their job. For instance, when a
tree dies, bacteria come in and eat the tree and it eventually becomes soil.
Bacteria does not eat a live, healthy tree. The same thing is true in
people -- bacteria are attracted to dead matter. Therefore, if you have
dead matter in your body, bacteria will come in and get to work decomposing
the dead tissue so that it may eventually become soil.
In the mid 1800s, western medical science had the choice of going one of
two ways. Bechamp's theory of disease maintained that every living thing has
arisen from the microzyma (the fundamental unit of the corporate
organism ) and every living thing is reducible to the microzyma. Bechamp
believed that microzymas secrete fermentative substances that aid in
digestion in a healthy body and evolve into bacteria when they encounter
dead or damaged cells.
Pasteur's germ theory of disease maintained that diseases come into our
bodies and make germs that we must fight so that we may be rid of them. J.I.
Rodale explained Pasteur's germ theory of disease by stating that, "Germs
live in the air, and every once in a while get into a human body, multiply
and cause illness. Nothing to it at all. All you have to do is kill germs
and disease is licked."
Bechamp's theory placed all of the responsibility of disease prevention
on the individual and his lifestyle. In a practical sense, there was no
money in that and people would be empowered with the ability to resist
disease by taking care of themselves.
Western medical science went with Pasteur's theory because it opened the
door which created the world's medical and pharmaceutical industries. Since
the 1850s, we have been developing new drugs to attack and kill the disease
invaders and the result has been epidemics of cancers and sicknesses and
diseases -- and a very rich and powerful pharmaceutical industry.
Last year, commented Dr. Welch, the pharmaceutical industry did $182
billion in drug sales world wide. In contrast to that figure, it cost
approximately $183 billion to treat adverse reactions from all of those
drugs, said Dr. Welch.
Dr. Welch read off some statistics which should cause concern to anybody
who sees an allopathic doctor, has medical insurance or may end up in the
hospital someday. Again, the following admissions were taken from JAMA:
The top five causes of death in the United States, in order, are:
1) Tobacco
2) Alcohol
3) Medical malpractice
4) Traffic accidents
5) Firearms
According to JAMA, doctors kill more people than auto accidents and guns.
With that in mind, one has to wonder why gun control is such a hot
legislative issue when, perhaps, we should be more concerned about doctor
control.
The number of people that doctors kill per day from medical malpractice
is roughly equal to the amount of people that would die if every day, three
jumbo jets crashed and killed everybody on board, commented Dr. Welch who
added, in defense of his own profession, just imagine what headlines would
result if a chiropractor or a naturopath accidentally killed just one
patient?
Another JAMA statistic stated that 20 percent of all people who see an
allopath will suffer an iatrogenic (doctor-induced) injury.
Again, according to JAMA, 16 percent of all people who die in the
hospital are determined by autopsy to have died of something other than
their admission diagnosis. In other words, the doctor had no idea what was
really wrong with the patient and, therefore, the patient may have died for
want of appropriate care that would have been subsequent to an accurate
diagnosis.
Another trade publication, American Medical News, stated that 28 percent
of people admitted to hospitals are there because they have suffered an
adverse reaction to prescribed drugs.
We are miserably losing the battle against viruses and bacteria.
Antibiotics do not work. We need to take a different tack because this is
obviously not working, said Dr. Welch.
Dr. Welch made numerous practical and logical observations throughout his
lecture. One of them is so obvious that it deserves mention here. When there
is an epidemic of, say, pertussis in a school and 14 of 200 kids get sick,
who gets studied? he asked.
The answer, of course, is that the sick kids get studied. They get
studied by the county health district and the health district accumulates
its data and then tells the newspapers about the epidemic of sickness and
everybody then flocks down to the health district or goes to see their
doctor to get vaccinated.
Would it not be more appropriate to study the 186 kids that did not get
sick? asked Dr. Welch.
Dr. Welch also read a quote from the British Medical Journal which states
that only one percent of all scientific research papers which explore
medicine are scientifically sound.
So, if that is true, then not only are allopathic doctors incorrect in
their understanding of the basic nature of disease, they are basing 99
percent of their conclusions, and therefore their diagnosis and treatment of
people, on flawed science.

allergy or intolerance to iodine

2006-10-16 01:38:41

Hello, listmembers:
I am not familiar with or too knowledgeable about people who have allergies
or intolerance to iodine, but I do believe that iodine is necessary for the
proper functioning of the thyroid gland. I would like to suggest that
persons who believe they cannot take iodine per se talk to their health care
providers about considering using things like kelp as a seasoning in their
food preparation. Parkelp is one brand that most health food stores carry.
Another suggestion is simply buying and eating the sheets of sushi nori
(seaweed). This item is also available at most health food stores, as well
as at Asian food stores. Both of these items are iodine rich in content, but
are foods. My dogs and cat eat as much of the nori sheets as I will give
them, and I believe that animals have some innate wisdom. I also believe
that the use of iodized salt may be somewhat beneficial, and that people do
need some salt in their diets, but that generally relying on salt to meet
one's iodine needs is generally a poor choice. I use sea salt from a health
food store, which is rich in many of the other other major and trace
minerals.
For those people who are iodine allergic or sensitive, I am wondering if a
small diluted amount of iodine were placed on the skin, if that might be a
safe way to get some into your body without suffering any of the adverse
reactions. Could you please let me know what kinds of reactions you do get
when you ingest iodine?
I have seen special maps of the USA showing the areas where the soil is
iodine rich, normal, or deficient. It seems that the areas where the iodine
content is deficient in the soil, there is a higher incident of
hypothyroidism. I cannot back this up by statistics, and I do not remember
where I read this.
Unfortunately, today's modern agricultural methods use artificial
fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, and other things which i am not
comfortable consuming. No artificial fertilizer can replace the natural
nutrients that mother nature has provided in virgin unpolluted top soil.
Organic farming is certainly a wonderful attempt to return to those bygone
methods. I think that future history written about our present time period
will show that many of our diseases and maladies are a direct result of our
modern agriculture methods, and the use of growth hormones, antibiotics,
artificial coloring, preservatives, nitrites, nitrates, etc and processing of
our foods in general. We have upset the balance of nature so severely, that
our planet is on a path of disaster, and we and our decendants will be the
victims.

SG, I know the feeling you're describing well. It's called allergic
rhinitis. I went through hell unable to breathe through both of my nostrils

symptoms.
At first I thought I was allergic to foods, but eventually it got so bad
that I thought I was allergic to all foods, water and mold!
After I moved to the desert to get away from the mold, I figured it out.
The
tap water here is so horrible to drink, that I started buying bottled water.
Like magic, all my allergic symptoms disappeared! Eventually I figured out
that it was the fluoride in the tap water that was affecting me. It is
undoubtedly also what caused me to become hypothyroid. Fluoroid interferes
with the body's thyroid functioning. I've switched to distilled water now,
and my other symptoms such as sore muscles and aching joints have gone away
too!
I'm on a list for allergies also, and when I told one of the women on the

non-fluoride toothpaste. Her symptoms went away for the most part on the

RE: Hashimoto's or Hypothyroidism

2006-10-15 04:00:59

Hashimoto's infers an infectious process or auto-immune dysfunction. When
there is a viral infestation of the thyroid tissue it sets up an immune
response in the body which now recognizes the virally infected tissues as
foreign and manufactures antibodies to combat the "foreign" tissues. So we
have destruction of the thyroid tissues.
The "answer" to Hashimoto's is to "take out" the virus, bacteria or yeast
that is causing the auto-immune response. That can be accomplished with
ImmunoGuard. Then, it is possible that Thyrodine will then restores thyroid
function unimpeded.
Hope that helps.

First Posting from Frustrated Hypo

2006-10-14 13:54:19

Hi all. I've been a lurker on this list for a few weeks and finally decided to
post for advice.
A little history....
I developed a HUGE goiter when I was 19 and was diagnosed with hypothyroidism -
most likely Hashimoto's although it's never been figured out exactly. Through
the past few years I have had many many many problems. I've taken Levoxyl and
Synthroid and have never really been able to level-out. I've recently moved to
California and am seeing a "holistic" doctor. She has put me on Armour Thyroid
(2 grains/day). The problem is, I am gaining weight like crazy, have an unhappy
mixture of extreme fatigue along with insomnia (go figure) and am just generally
feeling rather horid. My doctor wants me to wait for a few more months for the
Armour to start working but I really don't want to feel this terrible for a few
more months. Anyone else out there who switched from Synthroid to Armour wh had
this happen? And how long did it really take?
Also, about a year after I had my goiter I noticed that my left nostril was
consistantly useless since it was ALWAYS stuffed up. I was working at an art
supply store and thought that perhaps I was allergic to something we carried.
Well, it's 4 years later and my nose is still stuffed up! My doctors have either
told me that it's allergies or that it's psychsomatic. I have never tried nasal
spray becuase I didn't want to get hooked or make my situation worse. When I
wake up in the morning one side of my nose is completely blocked. My new doctor
has recommended that I see an ENT specialist about this and thinks it could be a
deviated septum. I currently have the 8th sinus infection I've had this year.
This infection has now lasted a full month. I thought I would research sinuses
on the net since I've had such troubles with it. I've found a few little bits on
info saying that uncontroled hypothyroidism causes nasal blockage and sinus
troubles. Does anyone else out there have similar problems?
Sorry to ramble on so much but this is my first post & I'm really feeling
hopeless since ever since I've been diagnosed I seem to get much worse instead
of ever getting better.

Questions about Thyrodine

2006-10-13 08:35:29

Earl,
Thank you for your response to my questions about Thyrodine. Please
understand that I am in no way hostile towards you or your product. In
fact I take many herbal and nutritional supplements myself and feel that
they help me a lot. What I am skeptical of, though, is the claims made for
this product. It seems to me that if a product had been developed that
actually restores thyroid function, many more people would know about it
and it would be used a lot more than it is. The only place I have ever
even heard about this product is on this list though. I am on at least
four other lists devoted to discussing hypothyroidism and nobody has ever
mentioned Thyrodine. And no, not all of the lists are people strictly
devoted to taking Synthroid and following allopathic medicinal practices.
I feel that if someone's thyroid had actually began functioning again after
taking a natural/alternative product, that information would be hard to
keep from making the rounds, especially in the computer age.
But perhaps not many people have heard of it yet. I am sure you can
understand someone wanted to ask you some hard questions about a product
