Hi all,
Is hair loss a symptom of thyroid problems? I am losing hair all over my
head (not a single growing bald spot, but just tons more hair in the brush
every morning, and I can see my scalp in front more than I have ever been
able to. When I went on synthroid the hair loss stopped, but now it has
started again and is quite severe.
I feel afraid to try the thyrodine protocol alone, but havent' found a good
naturopath in my area. What should I do?

Still suffering - Questions for Earl

2007-01-31 18:55:57

Dear Biloo:
Constant sore throats is an indication of lymphatic overload.
let me explain.
The lymphatic system is the sewer system of the body.
Arteries bring nutrients to the cells, veins take away the spent blood,
lymphatics take away the waste.
So, a sore throat, which is an inflammation of the lymph nodes indicates
that your sewer system is overloaded with toxic by-products.
Toxins of what? Too much cooked food, bread, meat, junk food, too much food.
Not near enough raw fruit and veges [organically grown, of course].
Go to www.hacres.com
Download their Hallelujah Diet and look at their testimonials. You don't
have to buy into their religious philosophy, unless it appeals to you.
Yes, you probably have a thyroid dysfunction, most women do.
yes, you've "tried" a lot of goodies to overcome your problem. That
indicates that you take responsibility and are looking for some form of
solution.
Our protocol was developed out of clinical experience. I've treated hundreds
of cases of thyroid dysfunction, very successfully. I am simply sharing my
experience. And we've made it into a very affordable package for folks to
utilize.
No, you won't need to "try" it to see if it "works."
It has always worked if the whole protocol is used as directed.
There may be other things going on also which need to be considered.
One may need to do a bowel detox more aggressively than our program
includes.
One may need to do a liver/gall bladder flush.
One may need to have some lymphatic massage.
One may need additional organic iron [beet root] or folic acid and B-12
[vegetarians] or zinc and B6 [for nausea or swelling of fingers, toes,
breasts, abdomen]
Thats why a good naturopath is indicated to address these other
possibilioties.
However, that said...
If one would do the whole Thyroid Regeneration protocol, and probably the
Hormone regeneration protocol [which simply adds hormone regulating herbs or
progesterone] and follows the Biogenic Nutritional guide [or the Hallelujah
Diet], we've seen incredible changes in health.
And no, one does not have to take our program forever.
Once thyroid function is brought back to normal, using kelp on your food
will maintain thyroid function forever...if you avoid toxins and have good
nutrition.

RE: [hypothyroidism] New to list and hypothyroidism

2007-01-31 06:07:12

Dear Susanna:
Thats a perfect example of how synthetic drugs [don't] work.
Synthroid is sold as...a substitute for your own thyroid hormone!!
No synthetic drug can possibly do the same physiological job as your own
natural hormone.
When are we going to learn that drugs are only for suppressing symptoms and
never address the cause of our health problems.
When are we going to learn to consult with natural health care therapists?
meaning...naturopaths, chiropractors, osteopaths, PhD's, some herbalists and
a very, very few medically-trained personnel, some of whom have tweaked onto
the fact that drugs simply don't solve health problems. In fact the greatest
cause of distress, disease and death...are prescription drugs.
The thyroid never needs "replacing!!"
What the thyroid needs is...
1-elimination of possible auto-immune problems
2-the nutrients it requires to function normally
The Thyroid Regeneration protocol addresses both of these needs plus more.
The TRP is explained at www.thyrodine.com
I have answered so many queries about the sad effects of synthroid,
Eltroxin, Thyroxine.
They are all synthetic drugs that mimic thyroid function but can never do
the same physiological role. The thyroid gland is capable of working quite
normally if only 1 and 2 above are addressed.
Another consideration: when one takes synthetic hormones, you're on them for
the rest of your life [profits!!!]
When one corrects thyroid dysfunction through the TRP, the thyroid comes
back to normal function and can be readily maintained by kelp sprinkled on
your food.

New to list and hypothyroidism

2007-01-31 01:29:21

Hello,
I joined the list yesterday and have been somewhat overwhelmed with the
information. I am 24 years old, and went to my primary care facility a
couple of months ago complaining of fatigue. I wanted to sleep ALL the
time. They took blood, and my TSH level was 6. I was prescribed .5 mg of
Synthroid once a day. I was not seen by a doctor, but by a physician's
assistant. For a while, I had my energy back, but now, a couple months
later, I am getting more and more tired throughout the day. I was also
told to start exercising (hard to do with a full time job and a toddler,
minus the Navy husband that's overseas), but take the stairs instead of
the elevator, walk (instead of drive) to the mailbox to check the mail,
etc. I have changed my eating habits considerably - no more fast food or
junky treats! Even with these minor changes, I think I am putting on
weight. I weigh more now than I did the day before I gave birth to my
son 11 months ago. I also never feel full. I literally eat until there
is nothing left in front of me. Is that common of hypothyroidism? Two
years ago I was 113 lbs, now I am at least 100 lbs more than that. Well,
I just wanted to share.

Re: Still suffering - Questions for Earl

2007-01-30 19:24:25

Dear Earl
Many thanks for your reply. I have actually been looking through
your website and have found it very interesting and a glimmer of hope
is there. My mother and sister also have hypo but I have actually
seen their symptoms go up and down along with their dosage over last
few years. So a product such as thyrodine would really help.
Excuse me for being sceptical, but I have spent thousands of pounds
(UK) over the last 10 years on different alternative treatments
ranging from acupuncture and herbs to reiki and homeopathy for my
chronic fatigue and sore throat, all with no affect. In fact, nobody
even mentioned thyroid disorder (maybe because they deal with the
'whole' and not symptoms - I don't know). On one hand I am very
hopeful of your products and want to order now, but on the other hand
I have tried so many 'cures' - that I ask my self will it work for
me? Maybe I should try it for a couple of months and see what
happens.
WHAT DO OTHER PEOPLE ON THE GROUP THINK OF THYRODINE?
HAS IT REALLY WORKED FOR YOU, IF YES, HOW QUICKLY? AND IS YOUR HYPO
NOW STABALISED?
Earl, if one did feel an improvement after 2 months or so, would they
have to take the product indefinatly or reduce the dose?
One more question, if I may; in your experience is a persistent sore
throat (very hoarse) a sympton of hypothyroidism? I have been told
by ENT doctors that mine is caused by post nasal drip and allergies,
and I have had both surgery and lasar treatment, with no effect.
Also, I am constantly having colds and viruses all year round.
Sorry for going on, but I am confused and desperate for a cure but
have been dissappointed so many times that I need to be sure that
this is right for me.
Yours in hope,
Biloo

Re: Re:[hypothyroidism] Still suffering

2007-01-30 14:52:57

hello,
i have been following this thread with interest because i am taking cytomel
for a low level of t3. this was (finally)diagnosed in august 2000. all
other levels (tsh, t4) are within normal range, so the doctor only has me
taking cytomel, 50 mcg. my last doctor visit was 3 months ago at which
point my blood levels indicated that the 25 mcg i was taking was not enough,
so i was increased to 50.
prior to the diagnosis of thryroid disease, i had been diagnosed as having
fibromyalgia, but i never believed that diagnosis. all of my mother's side
of the family has hypothyroidism. my problems started about three years ago
when i gained 25 pounds over a 7 week period after 20 years of being a size
4 (all of my adult life), and i started feeling awful. the 25 pounds kept
increasing until i had gained fully 50 pounds, my hair was falling out, i
wasn't sleeping properly, and i ached all over. at first the doctor said i
was just overeating and he put me on a diet...anyway, long story shourt, i
finally got the diagnosis i thought should have been made at the beginning.
when i first started the cytomel, i started feeling so so much better, i
couldn't believe it! and, i dropped about 17 pound in 2 months. my
hairdresser (who didn't know about the thyroid disease) asked me what i was
doing differently because my hair started looking normal and healthy again.
for about the last month though, i have been feeling worse again. i'm not
feeling as bad as i did to start, but i'm definitely feeling worse. my
weight loss has completely stopped and my hair has started coming out again.
i'm wondering what wilson's disease is. i'm also wondering if there is
anyone else on here with only a low t3 level. i really don't understand how
i could have this low t3 and a normal tsh. also, for the person taking
cytomel and synthroid, why are you taking both and what is your diagnosis?
thank you,
jody

Re: [hypothyroidism] Still suffering

Your doctor is correct. It takes a month for your body to adjust to the dosage. I know, i go through this all the time. It drives me crazy when they either increase or decrease the dosage. Because it feels like my body is going through a tailspin. If you do not feel better in a month or more, then i suggest you go talk to him. But i would not recommend using supplements. You can be doing more harm than good. I listen to what your doctor has to say and then from there see what happens. Just give it some time. I know, i have been there and done that.

Hello,
I'm not sure about the effects of the medication that you are taking as I'm
on 150mg of Synthroid. Still, it took almost 3 yrs or so (lost track
actually) before my thryroid levels stablilized and I began to feel effects
from the medication. Well, limited effects. I tend to swing up and down.
My blood tests tend to swing with the effects I feel. Now, I am told I
have stablized with the blood tests and did well for a few months. Felt
stronger, better healthy. Then started to spiral again. Now I'm being
investigated for Wilson's Syndrome.
I realize I'm not giving you a concrete answer. Just want to say, trust
your body signals, its saying more than the blood tests.

Still suffering

2007-01-29 20:11:53

Greetings everyone,
It has been a while since I last asked for help.
Just to remind you, I was recently diagnosed as hypo back in Oct 2K
and was put on 50mcg Thyroxine a day. 6 weeks later I had another
blood test done to check if this was the correct dosage, and it was
(according to my doctor).
However, I have not felt any difference at all in regards to my
Chronic Fatigue, 'foggyness' on the brain including forgetfulness, or
my permanent sore throat which makes my voice sound hoarse.
Should I realistically be feeling some difference by now?
When I put this question to my doctor before the 2nd blood test, he
said that the body has to get used to the thyroxine and it would take
time,(but how long?!!?)
Also, after reading some of the suggestions about Kelp on this group,
I am confused at the opposite replies. I too have been recommended
to take a kelp supplement by a alternative medicine practitioner,
with the thyroxine.
If someone can make any sense of the above, I should be grateful.
Yours hopefully

RE: [hypothyroidism] Synthroid + kelp

2007-01-29 13:26:51

Dear Cindy:
Synthroid is a synthetic hormone that has serious side effects.
It does not address the cause of thyroid dysfunction but acts as a partial
"replacement" for the thyroid that does not need replacement.
Kelp is an excellent source of iodine and trace elements.
Thyrodine will restore thyroid function.
Kelp will maintain throid function after Thyroidine has brought it up to
normal.
I will add data that you may find helpful.
more data is on www.thyrodine.com
best wishes,
Earl
Thyroid "replacement" with synthetic chemicals is really not a very
intelligent approach to thyroid dysfunction.
Never do medically trained personnel ever ask....WHY? Why is these a thyroid
dysfunction?
Our findings indicate that most folks suffer from some form of autoimmune
dysfunction which causes the immune system to make antibodies against
thyroid tissues.
There are many causes of thyroid dysfunction, chief of which are:
1-mercury contamination of tissues from amalgam tooth fillings
2-chlorine or fluoride damage from water "treatment"
3-Pathogen induced as a result of infiltration of thyroid tissues
with...herpes, Epstein-Barr virus, cytomegalovirus, Candida, fluke, etc.
If the thyroid dysfunction is caused by...
1-then a mercury detox program needs to be implemented until the mercury can
be removed by a dentist.
2-water filtration is necessary to remove chlorine and fluoride
3-The Thyropid Regeneration protocol will solve this aspect.
All three factors may need to be utilized at once.
Why Thyroid Regeneration Protocol
Thyrodine is a combination of nutrients, centered around a unique form of
iodine we have discovered and crucial nutrients like zinc, B6, selenium
manganese, all the 'B' vitamins, trace elements and some amino acids.
A primary underactive thyroid simply lacks these nutrients. When they are
supplied [by Thyrodine] the thyroid gland will then function normally.
However, we find that most people harbor some form of virus, bacteria,
yeast, fungus or fluke, and if one or more of these micro-organisms should
settle in the thyroid, then an auto-immune dysfunction is begun in which the
immune system makes antibodies which will eventually destroy the thyroid
gland.
We therefore strongly suggest that folks do the Thyroid Regeneration
Protocol. This protocol utilizes..
1-a natural antibiotic, ImmunoGuard, to eliminate all pathogenic organisms,
in a 10-20 day program.
2-Intesto-Lin: a gut detox formula based upon linseed fiber, slipperry elm,
glutamine, licorice, chickweed [being replaced with MSM], ginger, citrus
pectin and guar gum. This detoxifies a toxic gut and eliminates the "killed'
microorganisms.
3-Lactobacillus-8: a powerful gut restorative containing 8 bacterial strains
that restore gut wall function and correct gut flora.
4-Then Thyrodine has a far better chance of restoring thyroid function after
elimination of all forms of auto-immune dysfunctions.Thyroid Regeneration:
Basic to many or most forms of PMS, menopausal symptoms, gynecological
problems and overweight conditions is...thyroid dysfunction. There are
several forms of thyroid dysfunction ranging from hypothyroid to
hyperthyroid, including Hashimotos Thyroiditis and Graves Disease. These
last two are referred to as auto-immune dysfunctions
What are auto-immune dysfunctions?
Auto-immune dysfunctions occur when the immune system detects a foreign
cellular structure in the body and mounts an attack upon the foreign
substance to remove it from the body. Basic self-defense.
What is a foreign cellular substance?
All forms of viruses, bacteria, yeasts, fungi, parasites are foreign
substances. What tends to occur fairly frequently is that some cells or
organs like the thyroid, brain, lungs, ovaries, uterus, prostate are
infiltrated by mercury from amalgam tooth fillings or are invaded by viruses
like herpes, Epstein-Barr, cytomegalovirus or Candida. The virus injects its
DNA into the cellular DNA which then is programmed to produce more viruses.
Or tissue saturation with mercury is perceived as a foreign substance. The
immune system then mounts an attack against these foreign cells with the
object of destroying them and removing them from the body.
So, we have a situation where the body is actively destroying some of its
own tissues. But these tissues are virally or heavy metal contaminated and
as such perform no useful purpose. So, in its infinite wisdom, the body uses
its immune capacity to remove these foreign intruders.
But what happens if these intruders just keep on entering the cells? What if
the mercury is coming from our teeth and every time we chew we release
methyl mercury which rides throughout the body and is deposited in
susceptible tissues.
What happens if our bodies are excessively acid and toxic from excess meat,
dairy, junk food, sprayed food, deficient food or just tooo much food? Then
the body is forced to allow ascending forms of pathogenic micro-organisms to
hopefully clean up the imbalance. But if day after day, year after year, we
keep adding the same avalanche of meat, dairy, junk food, all-cooked food,
deficient food, then viral, bacterial or yeast presence is assured. And
these all contribute to auto-immune dysfunctions
5-Catumaca [herbal formula]: many women are into estrogen dominance,
characterized by...PMS, menopausal symptoms, uterine fibroids, ovarian and
breast cysts, endometriosis and ...cancer.
By eliminating all pathogenic micro-organisms, clearing the gut of toxic
debris, instituting the correct intestinal flora, restoring thyroid
function, stimulating production of all required hormones by this unique
herbal formula and ....adopting a Biogenic Nutritional program, most
gynecological problems may be elimminated.
6-Mercury detox protocol: consisting of Chlorella, Vitamin C and
Microhydrin: If any amalgam is present or has recently been replaced, it is
fairly essential to take the MDP to remove mercury from the tissues.
Chlorella is one of the better sources of concentrated nutrition, Vitamin C
[mineral ascorbates] is ewssential for detoxification and health of all
collagen structures [skin, hair, muscles, ligaments, fascia], microhydrin is
one of the best anti-oxidants...which prevent DNA and organ damage.
7-A Biogenic Nutritonal Guide is available that advises on natural, enzyme
filled nutrition.
It is also fairly essential to eliminate all chlorinated or fluoridated
water, all drugs, amalgam tooth fillings, nicotine, radiation sources such
as: high power lines, microwaves, cell phones, excess computer time.
Needless to say, junk food or processed food or GE food will diminish the
effectiveness of any program.
The above program is the basic protocol, should these prove inadequate,
there are more detailed protocols available.
Best wishes,
Earl

Question & Comments

2007-01-29 12:33:40

Earl,
This was interesting to read as I am doing most of what you wrote, and tho I am
happy to say I have improved, and even lost 20 lbs since last winter. (In case
it helps, I am 48 years old female, not menopausal.) Once I stopped listening to
my allopathic doctor and started adding alternatives, I still have another 25-30
to go and it is not coming off easily or "normally," so I know my thyroid is
still out of wack. And it is not only the weight that concerns me, as I just
dont have much energy, my skin does not bounce back the way it use to (rosacea,
boils too), my hair, tho better, is STILL dry as a haystack and so on. But the
weight has shown itself to be a bit of a barometer. It tells me when my thyroid
is a little better. I hold the belief that my body can heal itself it the right
things are given to it, but sometimes I cant uncover all the right things. Tho I
think part of the problem is winter, as tsh rises in the winter. For some
reason, season does effect hashi's. But with that little history of mine, was
wondering if you could tell me what this powerful Peruvian, Brazilian Chinese
herbal formula is and where to get it. I take maca, the type described on Marys
site, and while I think it has helped, well, I could use more help. The way I
eat I should weigh 98 lbs! And it is not that I am starving myself. Matter of
fact, I had a blood test that showed all my vits and minerals, etc., even
creatine as normal. But the way my body does not let go of weight, that is what
is not normal. Any help would be greatly appreciated and especially would like
to know about this herbal formula you mentioned. Thanks.

QUESTION TO WHOEVER MENTIONED HYPO ADRENALS, or anyone. :)
Someone mentioned "hypo adrenals" and I can't for the life of me find their post
to quote, so I am sorry and hope you will recognize this. Tho would love to hear
answers from others as well. My question is, how does one treat hypo adrenals on
their own? I am speaking about herbs, vits, etc. Dandelion lvs for diuretic? Or
something else? I suspect I have this and would like to know what direction,
naturually, to go with it. Thanks.

Just wanted to offer this piece of info I recently read in a Rodale book. It
said that coconut cookies (tho I would say just coconut alone, fresh) has
drastcially decreased IBS for many and in some caess, freed them of it.
Elsewhere I read how an HIV patient was dying so he went to Hawaii for his final
days, ate a lot of coconut there and when he got back, his virus load had
drastically reduced! He is alive now with his HIV greatly under control. He eats
half a fresh coconut daily. While that is great, I must warn, too much coconut
can make one constipated. I eat just a little bit. But if someone wants to eat a
lot, at least balance it by taking an herbal laxative, which usally wont have a
laxative effect with that much coconut. ha! (I tried it.)
I also read where coconut increases the t3 uptake in the brain, on Marys site. I
know that is a little different than what you were speaking about, but I just
thought I would throw that out there and than you can do whatever you want with
it. :)

Some alternative doctors say this is the same or almost the same disease as
hyypothyroidism. So once you treat the hypot, you just might get a handle on
that, or close to it.
That tsh is too high. In most cases, it should be between 1 and 2, closer to 2.
Your doc won't agree tho.
And all I can say about all those diseases, because I am not expert and mostly
know a little something only about hypot, but I have read that one who has hypot
has a 25 % chance of getting another autoimmune disease. So it would seem,
again, to get hypot under control is to get these under control.
You don't want to stimulate an autoimmune disease, you want to calm or balance
it.
T3 is the active thryoid hormone and if it agrees with you as well as works,
well, that might be the way to go. Check it out tho as it is all individual.
Also, t4 converts in the liver to t3, so the liver is usually weak or worse with
those who have hypot. I take milk thistle SEED because it has been reputed to
repair a damaged liver, and dandelion root because it can move blocks out of the
liver as well as just has a high mineral content. But too much dandelion root
can be stimulating, an unwanted effect with any autoimmune disease, so only a
little should be taken.
straightened out if I ever
Untreated hypothryoidism often results in cancer or heart disease, as well as
just a crummy daily life. No energy, to start with, and the rest of the list is
long.
I can't say much about the allopathic meds on the list because am not a doctor
and know that sometimes we do need them, but at the same time, they often put
toxins into our system, therefore any meds that can be at least decreased, which
can sometimes be done thru diet, vits/mienrals/aminos/herbs/exercise, etc., is a
good idea. But to do it under the supervision of an open minded doctor.
I only know that for me, I eat very little dairy if at all, and when I do it is
strictly organic. And meat is acid forming, our bodies need alkaline to be
healthy. There are plenty of other ways to get high protein.
Sounds like your hypoglycemia and if it is, an good herb for that is called
gymnenia, and it is even reputed to heal the pancreas cells!
I'm afraid some of this is beyond my scope, but hope someone has answers for you
that I dont. Good luck!

Sorry I don't have any of the signs of parasites and my ancestors back before 1900 who had the disease were not exposed to all of the things you mentioned. I am comfortable in saying, my thyroid problem was genetic and runs along my ancestral tree. I can't speak for others though. I feel better all of the time with the cytomel/synthroid combo.

Synthroid + kelp

Hi All,
My husband was just diagnosed with hypothyroidism and
anemia (Now I know why he slept all the time). He
pretty much follows conventional medicine while I
prefer the natural approach. His DR prescribed
synthroid. I would like to supplement him with
blackstrap molasses and kelp(bladderwrack fronds) but
I hear some caution given regarding using kelp while
using synthroid. Could someone explain to me the
danger of using both kelp and synthroid?
Thanks a bunch

Re: [hypothyroidism] Digest Number 334

2007-01-28 09:50:22

I can't agree that your causes that you list caused my thyroid condition. It tends to definately run in a genetic pattern in my mother's family and I have traced it back with genealogy research as far back as the mid 1800's in my family. We all didn't stay in the same place either and are spread out in several states since then. No, I have to say my problems with the thyroid gland are definately genetic. I have also read that some people's thyroid problems can be caused by radiation exposure or by exposure to way too many x-rays as a child like they did in the 1950's. I have been on the cytomel/synthroid combo for a month now and it is working great for me. I respond to the inert ingredients as well. I feel better much better than even my earlier post. I tried the natural stuff and it didn't work for me. I still had to have surgery. I do think some people do respond to the natural stuff but not all do. My endocronologist that I see here in Houston says he has some people
on what I take, some on armour, some on generics that it changes with each person and some who do well just with supplments. He is right though, I refuse to give up the cytomel/synthroid combo. He said everyone he has put on this combo tells him that after they adjust to it. I have adjusted and I refuse to give it up. I am still working on the weight issue. I now feel like exercising and I am am sort of doing a modified diabetic/zone diet. We will see how it goes.

RE: [hypothyroidism] New to the group and to hypothyroidism

2007-01-28 05:01:41

To Julie:
Hashimotos or hyperthyroidism is part of a whole syndrome as explained
below....
Earl
Wilson's syndrome is an anomaly not a condition!
Dr. Wilson [medically trained] had a number of patients who exhibited all
the symptoms of thyroid dysfunction. The blood tests however were all
"normal."
So, the anomaly is...
Dr. Wilson concluded that these people were OK or were disturbed or
imagining their symptoms, since their blood tests indicated that their
thyroid function was..."normal."
Probable facts:
1-most women and many men DO have symptoms of thyroid dysfunction
2-blood tests are highly inaccurate and do not reflect the condition of the
thyroid
3-auto-immune dysfunctions are experienced by a huge number of people
4-auto-immune dysfunctions are conditions where the immune system makes
antibodies that destroy the thyroid gland [or other systems]
5-the big question therefore is.....
why does the immune system, in its wisdom, make antibodies that destroy
the thyroid gland?
6-orthodox practitioners admit that they do not know the reason for
auto-immune dysfunctions
7-scientific researchers have established that the causes of auto-immune
dysfunctions are...
a-presence of herpes virus [including Epstein-Barr virus,
cytomegalovirus]that invades thyroid [or other systems] and injects viral
DNA into the cell nucleus which then produces viral DNA which is a foreign
protein or not self...and the immune system then makes antibodies to destroy
the not self.
b-presence of Candida or 'the fluke' or giardia or an STD or chlamydia or
any other viral, bacterial, mycotoxin or yeast infiltration. These invaders
take up residence and proliferate, secreting endotoxins. The immune system
perceives this activity as not self and makes antibodies to destroy the
invaded cells.
c-presence of toxins, such as: mercury [amalgam fillings], chlorine or
fluoride in water, excessive radiation [cell phones, computers, TV or cell
phone towers],
8-Stages of auto-immune dysfunctions:
a-the first stage of destruction is where huge quantities of thyroid
hormone are released due to the invasion [both infection and inflammation]
and consequent destruction of thyroid tissues. This is termed
hyperthyroidism. It may also be called Graves Disease, it may also be called
Hashimoto's thyroiditis. Researchers admit they can't denote any real
differences in these syndromes.
1]-orthodox practitioners have only one approach to
hyperthyroidism....destroy the gland!!!!
2]-cytomel or RAI or surgery are the only therapies offered by orthodox
practitioners.
3]-these "therapies" address only the symptoms and do not acknowledge
the causes.
b-the second stage of destruction is denoted by "normal" thyroid function
but with drastic symptoms of thyroid dysfunction. "Normal function" means
that destruction has evolved to the point where a fairly 'normal' amount of
T4 is being secreted....but gland destruction is accelerating.
c-the final stage of thyroid destruction occurs and is characterized by
hypothyroidism or inadequate production of T4.
NOTE: it is possible in many cases that simple deficiencies of iodine,
selenium, zinc, B6, magnesium, trace elements can result in inadequate
production of T4. This is a simple hypothyroidism and can be readily
corrected [not by symthetic or pig replacement] by supplying the required
nutrients...Thyrodine. Our experience however indicates that auto-immune
dysfunctions greatly predominate.
9-The intelligent approach to auto-immune dysfunctions involves...
a-elimination of the pathogenic micro-organisms that cause the auto-immune
dysfunction
b-clearing the gut of toxic debris and killed micro-organisms
c-re-establishing the normal intestinal bacteria and restoring the gut
wall integrity
d-restoring thyroid function
e-regulating all hormonal secretions with a powerful Peruvian, Brazilian,
Chinese herbal formula.
f-it may be necessary to implement a mercury elimination program
g-a Biogenic Nutritional Program provides the needed nutritional guidance
to accomplish the regenerative task along with the herbs and biologicals.
All of these details are further elaborated at... www.thyrodine.com

2007-01-27 20:43:46

Hello,
I just signed up for this group and thought I'd introduce myself. =0)
I am in my late thirties, female, living in north central BC, Canada. I
was diagnosed with hypothyrodism about 4 yrs ago. By the time it was
diagnosed, I had gained up to 300lbs, had a very enlarged thyroid gland,
was extremely depressed, exhausted, had no appetite, my hair was falling
out, extreme dry skin and extreme confusion. I was placed on synthroid and
thus began the see=saw life that I continue to live.
After 5 months with little effect and one strength change in the synthroid,
I sought out a naturalpath physician. Following his strict diet,
supplements, vitamins and other medications (of the alternative nature) I
lost 50lbs and slowly began to improve. However, I struggled with eating
disorders before my thryoid crashed and this particular N.D. did not
respect this aspect of my life. Rather than take on a wholistic view, he
became very fixated in the weight loss to the point my bulemia began to
rage. After a major battle with him, I walked out of alternative medicine
with a bit of fear. I was still battling convential physicians, changing
my synthroid prescription almost every 3 months and still had little
changes in my body, spirit and mind.
A friend recommended a female ND who was new to the area...along with her
training as a ND, she has a BSc in Pharmacology. The first thing she did
was remove me from many of the supplements the previous ND had given me and
refused to do the weigh-in. She took a complete life history, up to the
current. I began a new regieme and felt more "heard" by her. Although the
weight loss did not occur, my energy level began to increase, my migraines
decreased and my blood levels began to stablize. (as I was still under the
care of a MD in convential medicine).
After the first year, I stopped seeing my ND on a regular basis for many
reasons, incuding she is in the next city (about 100kms away) so it
requires travelling. I did continue to take my supplements (when I
remembered, I'm ADD and this can be a difficulty at times - following
through <g
looked much better, my hair started to grow back in and generally was
upbeat. Then I began to spiral.
I was hit with horrific migraine headaches that simply knocked me out and
nothing helped. I sought out chiropractic help - have an excellent one who
combines manipulation and massage - thinking it was my past problems with
my spine and neck. There were definite problems but she felt there was
more behind the headaches. I sought out my MD who stated that my blood
levels were stable, there was no problem with my thyroid and ordered a CT
scan for the headaches. Of course, it came out normal.
I've asked my MD and several others (small town, you get the MD who is
avaiable) why I am not stable with my thyroid levels. I keep getting told
it takes time. Why should it take years? And years? When does it stop
being a battle? They would pacify me then send me on my way.
I returned to my female ND and asked the same of her. She didn't pacify.
She investigated me for Wilson's Syndrome and I have an appt next Friday to
find out the outcome - she is certain that I'm dealing with this issue.
Plus I have hypo adrenal glands which she has started me on supplements
for.
I researched Wilsons Syndrome and discovered it is not recognized in North
America nor is it something sanctioned by the American Thyroid Association.
I spoke with my friend in Portugal, who is a physician and he stated it is
a very real syndrome recognized in Europe. I found this all very
interesting.
Well, for my first post, I just realized how long it went. I apologise for
the length but not sure how else to express my concerns, since this was a 9
yr battle PRIOR to diagnosis and feels forever.
Has anyone been diagnosed with Wilson's Syndrome and have information on
this? Or any information how to deal with a combination of difficulties -
low thyroid, low adrenal gland function, ADD, eating disorders....I'd
really appreciate feedback on dealing with these various issues. I really
have faith in my female ND. She is brillant and has a wonderful
personality. She's been doing a ton of research in Wilson's Syndrome and
thyroid conditions, so am interested in what happens next Friday.
Thank you for listening and for your input,
Bev

My advice is: Do not believe what anyone tells you as THE TRUTH.
Unfortunately everyone is guessing, and you have to listen to YOUR body.
For me Armour Thyroid made a huge difference. So did lots of food
supplements and vitamins. I take B supplements, Q-10 , MSM, DHA, and a
zillion others.
Also, educate yourself, go to
http://forums.about.com/n/main.asp?webtag=ab-thyroid&nav
(i hope that works)
and other sites. Get books from Amazon.com on thyroid, etc etc.
Many of us DO have different forms of Myalagia, Lupus and other autoimmune
diseases.
Good luck.

My mom who had hyperthyroid and then the surgery, also has stomach
problems. She first cut out diary for the most part. Then she changed
her calcium supplement to calcium citrate and now she also has given
up certain wheat products since she found out some people who have
thyroid trouble have allergies to wheat etc which can also cause
stomach trouble. She had fibromylagia and arthritis too. She
exercises and for awhile had to take a mild antidepressant and she
lost her excess weight and she is fine or much better now.
As for hypoglycemia, well I went through hell with it and my
hypoparathryoidism after my thyroid surgery. It took about two years
of a boring diet and exercise before I stablized. Now I can cheat or
eat exciting stuff sometimes during the week but not often. You can
eat too much protein so be sure to add veggies which won't hurt. You
have to eat a little bit all day long with hypoglcyemia. With
exercise, the blood sugar stablizes more. However, you have to eat
some before you exercise with hypoglycemia or the exercise will lower
your blood sugar while you exercise. Note the exercise long term
effect on blood sugar far outweighs the short term problems. I am
fine now with the hypoglycemia but if I am not careful, it sometimes
raises its ugly head.

Dear Joyce,
I also suffer from IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) - I eventually had a lactose
intolerance test and
since avoiding dairy products there is great improvement. When I do eat
something dairy (very
rare, except for a plain bio yoghurt once in a while) then I take a few lactate
tablets - it
contains the enzyme that digests lactose. Because of the Hashimotos and the
resultant auto-immune
disease, I suffer from rheumatoid arthritis and cutting out dairy has definitely
relieved those
symptoms as well. I substitute soya milk for regular milk, but also keep the
quantity very low as
I learnt from this website that soya is also not so great for the
hypothyroidism.
I suggest you cut out dairy for a few days and see if it makes a difference.
All the best for the New Year.

Hello Group,
I have had an enlarged thyroid for the past 2
years. This past summer it peaked in size to what seemed about a golf
ball. Over the past 3 months it has decreased so that all I can feel is
a pea sized nodule. Does this make sense? Has anyone else experienced
this? Does this remind anyone of any specific thyroid disease?
If I am doing something right I don't know what it is.
Any input would be appreciated.

New to the group and to hypothyroidism

Hi my name is Julie and I am 29. I just found out that I have Hashimoto's
thyroiditis last February. I had been missdiagnosed with Fibromyalgia for
the past 2 years before this. I had changed doctors and he found that I had
a thyroid problem just by looking at my neck. When I was 16 I was told that
I had a goiter, but they didn't do anything about it! Now it's huge, I have
gained a ton of weight, and have had all the other symtoms and such. I am on
Levoxyl and most of my symtoms are gone now. I haven't lost much weight,
only about 10 pounds in almost a year. I recently added Kelp to my levoxyl
to see if that might give my thyroid a boost as well. I had to have a
hysterectomy in late September, and that made my thyroid quit working again,
and I'm also having to get my one and only ovary into shape because it's
producing too much estrogen. Well, that's my story, if anyone has any
helpfull advice on loosing weight when you have a thyroid problem please let
me know.
Thanks,
Julie Fox

Mistreated Hypothyroidism/URGENT

2007-01-26 06:48:01

Hello to the group:
I just found this group day before yesterday so am a newbie. I have
written twice to Earl privately before I realized he is a Dr. but my
husband feels I should put this out here for the entire group. So...
I am a 49 yo white female who had been on Synthroid (various dosages)
since May of 89'. About a year ago a "naturalist" dr. put me on T-3,
T-4 with whole descimated porcine at 1 and a half grains. I have all
the symptoms, in addition, I have FMS and am on the guaifenesin
protocol, MCS, CFIDS, hypoglycemia, feet are particularly bad (&
hands). Recent physical showed a cholesterol of 199 and TSH of 8.675.
In the last couple of months I had added ImmunePro to my protocol,
slowly increasing it to 3/8 tsp. a day, which made me very ill,
almost to the point of pneumonia so stopped taking that. They also
recently put me back on Synthroid .1 mg which is making me ill with
more headaches, etc. I am torn as to whether or not to go back to
the "natural" one until I can get things straightened out if I ever
get this straightened out. What happens if I don't take anything? I
was in a wheelchair for 2 years with my feet...
I am on the folowing meds:
Effexor XR 150 mg
Restoril 10 mg.
Bentyl 10 mg.
Prilosec
Klonopin PRN (seldom)
Synthroid or natural substitute
E
B
C
Calicum Citrate 1500 mgs
zinc, Mag., Aspartate combo 4 x a day
L-Lysine
Multi-vitamin
2 years and 4 months ago I had a severe gastro spell that left me in
bed holding a pillow for 2 months during which time I lost 40 lbs.
(needed to lose at least 30 of it) and have not been able to gain any
back. I am 5'7" and weigh 123 lbs right now. I started the guai 18
months ago and during ALL of this time this gastro problem has
persisted. Had every test and nothing was ever found. The only way
I manage to have no pain is to stick to a strict protein diet: dairy,
eggs, meat, fish which, not only is very boring but, I wonder what it
is doing to my body? The slightest carb or sugar puts me into
immediate cramping and muscle spasms. FYI, I have had stomach and
intestinal discomfort all of my life. At birth I was diagnosed with
a "spastic stomach" and was kept on rice/oatmeal water for a year.
Is this Thyrodine protocol something I can use with the guai? The
reason I ask is that "natural" things usually have salycilates in
them and sal's block the guai. How do I check out the legitimacy of
it all?
I amm in need of immediate help here and am quite frightened. Can
anyone help? Thanx, Joyce in GA

Please help to me quickly!

cytomel/synthroid combo

2007-01-25 16:40:28

I had the surgery b/c of severe Hashimoto's which was so bad that it
was pushing my esphogus out of line and it hurt when I swalloed. For
me, thyroid troubles of all kind is genetic in my family that is from
Tennessee as far back as the mid 1800's from what I have been able to
trace with my genealogy research and family rumors. Another
consequence from the surgery is that I now have hypoparathyroid
problems as well and have to take calcium supplements all day long as
well as rocaltrol. I had intially been on synthroid and then a doc
took me off and gave me the natural stuff and my gland grew almost
overnight and led to surgery because gland didn't respond after it
grew to new doses of thryoid medicine. For me the natural route
didn't work. Then I went through hell from gaining 30 pounds and I
went to thyroid docs who aspirated to see if I had cancer (didn't)and
finally had the surgery b/c I could not take it anymore and the thing
had grew so large it looked like I had a live being in my neck.
People stopped me on the street and said stuff to me (especially
anyone who worked in the medical profession). After the surgery, they
started me way on way too much synthroid and I had to go to the er
from electrolyte imbalances, blood sugar problems etc. I was
gradually lowered on synthroid to the point I am now on 1.5. 1.75 is
way too much. For awhile I took 1/2 of .025 and 1.5. Then that was
too much. Now I am 1.5 which is not quite right either. I also put
on another 30 pounds so I am now about 60 pounds overweight. I had a
problem with the synthroid not being the right dosage and was being
switched and switched. I rotated dosages and finally even split
pills. I also didn't really eat that much and was told to not eat
more than 600 calories a day by my endo. I am over 5 ft 7 and I did
that and the blood sugar would go off. I switched to a another endo
and the tsh is not not right but this time rather than take a pill
and a half (synthroid is hard to split as it is, he added cytomel and
told me that I would probably have to have the dosages readjusted a
few more times but all the patients he had on cytomel loved it. So
now I take both synthroid and cytomel. I can honestly say synthroid
cleared the brain fog but cytomel gives me brain polish.
Unfortunately it has been about three weeks since I started it and I
am not fully adjusted to it yet. I had a hard time taking synthroid
and cytomel together at first(had to space them apart about three
hours) but now I don't. I have stopped gaining weight and don't feel
down anymore but I haven't lost any weight yet.My acne has decreased
as well which is good since I am 39 and the facial hair has decreased
(did the test for that but it came back normal). I tried the generics
of the thyroid med but I am one of the few people who actually did
better with synthroid. My whole family does better with synthroid. My
doc thinks we respond differently to the inert ingredients and
synthroid inert is slightly different than the generics. I tried the
armour and the other natural stuff and I wound up in the er. Now if I
can lose the weight I will be happy since I don't come from a big
family and only have been big 192 pounds this past three years. I
used to weigh 130 before this all started about five years ago. I
don't think I can give up the cytomel combo with the synthroid
though. I have definately gone from just so so hum hum with the t4
alone (was far worse without the t4 though) to having my brain
polished, alert, etc with the cytomel added. It's great. I am not
knocking natural stuff since I hate taking all of the pills I take
but it doesn't always work.

school of thought, and may be new to the alternative minded, as well.
CLEANSING YOUR INTERNAL ENVIRONMENT FOR NATURAL HORMONAL BALANCE - Part 5
Sexual function, health and fertility.
Natural selection is nature's way of guaranteeing and promoting stronger and
healthier future generations. Nature wants the strong to survive and the weak
not to be born, and if born, to be recycled early.
The primary functions of the body are to repair, survive, duplicate and
procreate. When your health level falls below a certain percent, you lose
those
basic functions. Infertility and sexual impotency in women and men is
usually a
sign of poor health. If you correct the underlying causes of poor health, you
will regain sexual potency and fertility.
People will borrow money and spend $10,000 for implant procedures that do not
work 85% of the time. Some do this several times. It would be cheaper, safer
and promote children with stronger health, if done the natural way. The
natural
way is to become strong and healthy...
Regaining ones potency or fertility "the natural way" is not a matter of
taking one or several herbs. Certainly a number of herbs can be used in a
health improvement program but the focus of the program should be improvement
of nutrition, absorption and detoxification.
The idea of taking a pill or some particular "medicine" to handle a health
condition is a carry over from allopathic practice into the natural healing
field. It's lazy, "instant gratification think" and it goes nowhere in
terms of
creating strong, overall health. Even though you can use garlic instead of
penicillin and echinacea instead of interleukein and chemotherapy, it still
does not change the factors in one's lifestyle that have been creating the ill
health.
For example, aloe (truly good, effective aloe) can be used for treating
stomach ulcers.
Dr. Jensen used to say that the real cure for stomach ulcers is to tie the
person's hand behind their back for two weeks. in other words, get them to
stop
eating the foods which create ulcers - ham sandwiches, pepperoni pizzas, etc.
Fast them or juice flush them. That's a correct natural healing approach.
Treating infertility or impotency only by trying to stimulate the gonads,
ovaries, uterus or prostate is to attempt a bypass of the cause of the
situation.
If you, instead, work to increase the persons health, their sexuality will
become restored naturally. Then, when the person is strong and healthy it is
time to use sexually stimulating herbs.
Miscarriages
When a woman's body is threatening miscarriage, it is most often because
nature is saying that the body is not ready to have a baby. It is not healthy
enough, strong enough, the nutrition being absorbed is not adequate, there is
too much toxicity in the organs and blood, and so on. In fact, this is also an
accurate description of what is behind all infertility and sexual dysfunction.
The foolish thing to do is take drugs from a doctor to prevent the
spontaneous
miscarriage. Better to allow the body to correct itself and get on a program -
both mom and dad - of creating strong health.
Abortions - especially numbers of them - often increase the possibility of
spontaneous miscarriages. Newly created babies attach themselves very
firmly to
the walls of the uterus. With an abortion , the doctor goes in and performs a
very intense surgical procedure. The baby is cut up and scraped off of the
wall
of the uterus and sucked out in a vacuum type device. This leaves heavy scar
tissue on the uterus. When multiple abortions are performed, more scar tissue
accrues and hence, it becomes more difficult to get new babies to attach to
the
remaining good tissue.
Women can have healthy children even if the odds are stacked against them
from
the beginning. The late Dr. Christopher helped many women to regain strong
health and thereby their ability to have healthy babies. In fact, he often
said
that there were more kids around Utah named John or Ray after him, because he
helped so many women have babies who couldn't. All it requires is that women
get to work and the dad's get to work, as well.
As a matter of fact, Dr. Christopher helped women become healthier even after
they had became pregnant, contrary to what some practitioners will advise.
During pregnancy, he had his women do a lot of health building with diet
change
and circulation work, and much with blood cleansing herbs such as red clover,
Chaparral and poke root.
A formula based on the famous Hoxey Formula and Dr. Christophers Red Clover
Combination is as follows: Red Clover Blossom (purple flowers) Chaparral,
Lobelia seeds + pods, Garlic, Burdock seed and root, Yellowduck root,
Goldenseal root, Oregon grape root, blood root sap, european mistletoe and
Periwinkle Flowers. This preparation is used to cleanse the accumulated waste
and toxins out of the blood stream, lymph system and general cells of the body.
Our tincture of this formula is called the "Blood DeTox Concentrate." A
person
should take 4 to 8 droppersful daily added to juice, water or tea. There is a
Blood DeTox Tea available which consists of Red Clover Blossoms, Chaparral and
Oregon Grape Root. During pregnancy, take this formula on and off - it is more
effective that way - two weeks on and two weeks off.

HFR Newsletter Vol. 4 Issue 11c

Online Health & Nutrition Newsletter Vol. 4. Issue 11c. Spirit of Health
Here is the Seventy Eighth issue of our online newsletter, "Spirit of
Health." We bring you articles which are always beyond the mainstream medical
school of thought, and may be new to the alternative minded, as well.
CLEANSING YOUR INTERNAL ENVIRONMENT FOR NATURAL HORMONAL BALANCE - Part 4
Pre Menstrual Syndrome - PMS
The Female Hormone Balance Formula (Dong Quai root, Chaste Tree Berries and
Wild Yam Root) is enhanced by the addition of a nervine complex of herbs:
Valerian root, Passionflower flowers, and Hops flowers. Also added is a
diuretic set of herbs; Urva Ursi, Corn Silk, Juniper Berries and Dandelion
Root. This is the PMS Formula Concentrate: 75% Female Hormone Balance Formula
and 25% of the additional seven herbs listed above. This PMS Formula is very
helpful in taming the symptoms of this difficult hormonal imbalance.
A woman's menstrual cycle consists of 28 days and from the 14th day toward
menstruation the hormone levels drop. With women who suffer from PMS, between
day 18 and 21, the hormone levels drop suddenly. Along with this crash comes
depression, anxiety, rage and other forms of emotional instability. Also
associated with this syndrome is water retention.
There is an old joke,"What's the difference between a woman with PMS and a
terrorist? Answer: you can negotiate with a terrorist." There is a very direct
connection between the hormone secretions of the body and the persons
emotional
and mental state. A hormone balance which is off by just one or two percent
can
make a tremendous difference in how a person handles life. When you get a
women's hormones rebalanced, you can have a very different person there.
Some mistakes made by MD's and herbalists alike include treating the anxiety
manifestations with sedative drugs or herbs. The emotional state is the
symptom. The cause is hormonal imbalance and as soon is this is corrected, the
other symptoms are eliminated.
MD's and herbalists can also make the mistake of pumping estrogen,
progesterone and testosterone with prescription drugs or strong phytosterol
herbs, into the patients. By doing this the ovaries are being bypassed and
they
will become less able to produce their own hormones as time goes on.
Eventually
they will go totally to sleep. A much more effective idea is to get the
ovaries
to work better, not less.
Some woman can use male hormones to balance their bodies. Maybe they want to
cry frequently, feel wimpish and indecisive and feel hurt often by things
said,
or done or not done. These women can take Male Energy Concentrate and feel
more
assertive, affirmative and able to make strong decisions.
MENSTRUAL FORMULA:
There is another formula which is very effective for women who have
difficulties with their menstrual period. It is called the Menstrual Formula
Concentrate and consists of Wild Yam Root, hemp bark, Blue Cohosh, Squaw vine
herb, False unicorn, Lobelia, ginger root, Motherwort and Willow Bark.
This formula gives relief from complaints associated with menstruation very
quickly and yet has no side effects whatsoever. Start using it the moment you
start feeling the onset of your period and continue using it as needed
throughout the days.
SEXUAL FUNCTION ASSISTANCE
Sometimes when hormone balance and great improvements in health have been
achieved, there can still be a difficulty in terms of sexual interest. When
this is a problem, there is an herb called damiana tunera aphodisica which is
very effective - both for females and males. It is very safe to use in that
people cannot overdose on it and it has no possible toxic side effects, like
yohimbe, for instance. For the person desiring it, Damiana works very well to
restore a lost sex drive.
But this has to go along with a health program. You just can't give it to
your
partner instead of coffee in the morning and not make any other changes.
The dosage to start with would be one or two droppersful of tincture three
times a day.
Occasionally some women may feel sexual but find it difficult to excrete
sufficient fluids or get lubricated. When this is a problem, use the Female
Hormone Balance Formula along with Damiana and not only will the vagina get
lubricated but also the sexual sparks will fly.
Commercial preparations of Damiana are usually found not to be effective at
all. There are other species of damiana besides "Damiana turnera aphodisiacia"
but they contain no sexual stimulant activity. When you use good, strong
damiana watch out - it's powerful!
There is a formula specifically designed for women who are healthy and want
more from sex. This formula includes damiana, but women who want extra gusto
will take this Female Energy Formula and then also take a few dropperfuls of
damiana tincture an hour before they have sex. The Female Energy Formula
Consists of Damiana Leaf (tunera aphrodisiacia), Wild Yam root, Licorice root,
Siberian ginseng root, Sasparilla root, Saw Palmetto berry, Oat seed, green
and
milky from immature seeds, Kola nut and Ginger root.

Forskolin

Change in my Synthroid Dosage

2007-01-24 07:55:32

I was diagnosed 1.5 yrs ago with hypothyroidism and have been on Synthroid
.125 for 1 year. I've felt really good and my hair stopped falling out 6
months ago. After having it fall out 4 times I have been so happy that it's
once again quite full. I wake up with lots of energy after sleeping 7-8
hours and run all day chasing my 2 yr old son. My TSH has been running very
low at each test, it's been 0.7 and 0.5. The other day it was 0.1 and my
endo is changing my doseage to .112. She said if my TSH is too low for an
extended time I run a high risk to develop osteoporosis.
I'm so hoping I won't have an "adjustment" period with an altered dose.
Since this is just one tiny step down in dosage, does anyone know what to
expect? Will my hair fall out or will I feel tired? If so, how long will
that last? Is there anything I can do to prevent it?
She also is putting me on Zocor because my cholesterol is higher than ever
... 262 and LDL at 170. Does anyone have experience with this cholesterol
lowering drug?
much thanks!

Thyodine protocol

2007-01-24 00:15:12

Hi There,
Well, I can honestly say that this is the best that I have felt ever!!!
I started the thyodine protocol one month ago and I am now starting to see
results. My hands and feet are no longer "cold" all the time, and my energy
levels are starting to even out.
I may need another bottle of thyodine though, as I accidently spilled half
of it. Plus I haven't been following the diet so well, since I have been
cramming for finals...which is why it's taken me a little longer than
normal...(not to mention lack of exercise)...sorry Earl, for not being your
ideal patient...but I plan to start rebrewing kombucha tea now that my
course is finished, and follow a better diet and of course exercise and then
well...I should have an almost new body!!!
Thanks for all your help and advice. :)

RE: [hypothyroidism] toxic thyroid

2007-01-23 16:41:57

Dear Lori:
A "toxic thyroid" is a quaint way of suggesting that a thyroid dysfunction
exists. Most forms of thyroid dysfunction involve auto-immune dysfunctions
which means generally an infiltration of thyroid tissues with herpes or
Epstein-Barr virus or cytmegalovirus or candida.
The Thyroid Regeneration protocol is designed specifically to eliminate that
form of thyroid problem.

toxic thyroid

2007-01-23 07:59:00

Hi,
I am new here. I read through some of the archives but did not find an
answer to my question. I have a toxic thyroid, as an iridilogist
assessed me. He did not give me any idea of how to cleanse my thyroid,
just that I need more idodine in my diet. I am doing colon cleansing
and hope that this will cleanse my whole body and allow the toxins in
the organs release their toxins. Is there some specific herb or cleanse
any one would recommend for cleansing the thyroid? Thanks,
Lori

Deb, based on my own experience and on reading thousands of posts on the
about.com thyroid forum, I'd bet dollars to doughnuts you're hypothyroid.
You need info and here's the best place to get it:
http://www.thyroid.about.com
You also need support. Go to http://www.delphi.com and create a user
identity. Then type "thyroid" into the search engine and the thyroid forum
will pop up. It's a much busier place than this. You'll get lots of help
and support there.
Good luck.

and weight loss. My TSH values have measured as follows within a 2
year span:
4.06
4.2
3.2
5.1
None of the doctors have ever mentioned hypothyroidism. I can't seem
to gain weight and my hair is falling out. Should I be on med's?
Thanks in advance!

Newbie Seeks advice

2007-01-22 09:30:47

hi,
i'm new to this list -- my name is deb.
i was diagnosed with candidiasis in september, after 4 months of searching madly as to why i was suffering from muscle weakness and balance problems -- to the point of being scarcely able to walk. I had numerous other candida toxin-related symptoms, all of which have kept me relatively incapacitated since May. since i've been on candida treatment (began mid-September), i have improved considerably but still am far from "normal."
i'm trying (in conjunction with my doctor) to determine whether or not i'm hypothyroid since it is said that hypothyroidism and candida have a definite relationship and that to cure candida, you have to deal with hypothyroidism if you have it.
Summer 1998 I was borderline (don't have figure)
May 2000 - free T3 5.1
T4 13.5
TSH 3.4
July 2000 - 6.2 (hypothyroid)
September 2000 4.71 ("normal")
My doctor's nurse practitioner prescribed me some synthyroid in July when it was 6.2, but I ended up not taking it since I hear you end up staying on it for life, and my doctor, who returned two weeks later, said to wait til they figured out what my physical problem was (the candida had not yet been diagnosed).
I have been keeping track of my basal temps. I know a week isn't much to go on, but here they are (using a digital thermometer).
basal oral underarm
sun 97.3 96.5
mon 96.7 95.1
tues. 97.0 95.0
wed. 97.4 96.5
thurs. 97.2 96.5
sun 97.3 96.5
I have a number of the symptoms: sluggishness, constipation, hair loss on top front of head (and finding hair all over the floor, etc. - unusal for me), fissure in tongue. My eyes are red and lids swollen every morning (but that could be from the candida). In general, I feel wound down, like I could use some revving up. I also think my metablism is on the slow side since i gain weight easily and don't lose it quickly. For example, i've been on the candida diet for about a month and maybe have lost five pounds maximum (I am currently about 60 lbs. overweight).
My questions are these: 1) is there some thing else I can do/some other test to determine hypothyroidism? 2) are there other symptoms i should be on the lookout for (have already checked some web sites) and 3) from the info I've presented -- any feedback would be much appreciated.
thanks in advance,
deb@...

Re: Question re thyrodine regeneration protocol (Earl)

2007-01-22 08:38:16

Thanks Earl :o)
I had my amalgams out a year ago + chelation therapy (with Dr Tessa
Jones in Wellington - which is where I first heard about Thyrodine.)
The Nystatin is working in that it is killing off the yeast....I have
definate 'die off' symptoms! But, I have read about the candida
coming back, and I agree with you that it is better not to take any
drug if possible. It was massive drug therapy that started my CFS
symptoms in the first place!
Thanks again for your input. I'll be placing an order soon. :o)
Best wishes,
Adele.

RE: [hypothyroidism] Question re thyrodine regeneration protocol (Earl)

2007-01-22 05:54:57

Dear Adele:
Why stay on a drug that doesn't work???? Or any drug for that matter?
The Thyroid Regeneration protocol is designed to eliminate candida or any
other pathogen.
The first part of the protocol incorporates ImmunoGuard which was originally
designed to eliminate candida, which it does.
Nystatin will "kill" candida but it comes back with a vengence when you
stop. Then your liver has to deal with the nystatin.
ImmunoGuard will eliminate Candida. The Intesto-Lin will clear the dead
candida and other toxic debris from the intestines. Lactobacillus-8 will
re-implant the correct bacteria into the intestines which will hold any
further candida in check.
This is assuming that one eats NO sugar, junk food, chlorinated or
fluoridated water, sprayed food and has no amalgam tooth fillings.
If you have amalgam then you need to take chlorella til you're able to have
mercury removed by a dentist.
You will want to consider Vital Nutrition Plus also to take in super
nutrition from all natural sources.
Current research suggests that cfs/fms is largely due to some form of
pathogenic invasion. herpes is the most suspect, followed by EBV,
cytomegalovirus, giardia, candida and parasites.
So, eliminating all pathogens, cleaning up nutrition, adding vital Nutrition
plus and addressing mercury...just could make a huge difference.....
Best wishes,
Earl

Question re thyrodine regeneration protocol (Earl)

2007-01-21 23:29:59

Hi Earl,
I have cfs/fm, and I have low thyroid and adrenal functions -
determined through basal temperature and low DHEA-s.
I am currently using Nystatin to help with candidiasis. Is it
possible to follow one of your protocols successfully as well as stay
on the Nystatin?
Thanks,
Adele.

RE: [hypothyroidism] Question for Earl

2007-01-20 20:27:00

Hi Earl,
Thanks for your recent post that showed the symptoms
etc for Thyroid problems(question was about
synthroid).
I was wondering if you had ever run across Gotu Kola
tincture as a treatment for slow thyroid? It was
recommended to me as a way of balancing the thyroid
and I have to say that I felt more energetic and alert
within a day. On the days when I give my body a rest
from it (every 21 days) I'm back to the old fatique.
Just curious what you think.

Would you mind educating us about the synthroid lawsuit? Why was it filed?
What harm does synthroid do?
Thanks so much!

Synthroid lawsuit

2007-01-20 12:28:04

Hi, I thought I had read somewhere that the Synthroid lawsuit had been
settled and that people would be receiving checks if they had filed their
claim. But I have not heard anything since then, and I certainly haven't
received a check. Has anyone else heard anything? Joy

not being diagnosed!!!

2007-01-20 08:43:45

This is to anyone that will respond to my problem. I have been following this group for sometime.sometime back i was in my Doc's office and he recommended that I get my thyroid checked. the blood test came back neg. I have the symptoms of hypo with no weight gain.I did the arm pit test and it was 97.4. I have a lot of pain at the base of and to each side of my neck above the collar bone.I have had 1ct and 1 mri and 1 x-ray for different things , but nothing has showed up as thyroid problems.I feel slow and run down and just feel bad. My blood work shows that i am slightly anemic.but nothing to be alarmed about.Could some one maybe with the same problem respond to my problem and maybe enlighten me on this, please. thank you frank.

Newly diagnosed - advise needed please

2007-01-19 19:34:21

Dear All
Greetings!
I have just today been diagnosed through a blood test as being a
hypothyroid sufferer. I am not sure which specific test was done,
but my GP told me my level was 11.5. When I asked her if the normal
level was between 0.5 and 5.5 (approx) she agreed.
She has put me on 50mcg Thyroxine and said I should have a blood test
done in 6 weeks when she will review the situation and may need to
increase the dose. whenI asked whether I should see an
'Endrocriniologist', she said there was no need as 2 members of my
immediate family have it.
I thought (and might still have) I had hypoglucemia or low blood
sugar, and have adjusted my eating habits and times (removing sugary
and white flour foods, plus eating every hour). After one month, the
only difference I have noticed is my stomach is much more settled.
But I still suffer from Chronic Fatigue, especially in the morning,
not to mention the 'fog' centred around my eyes and my head
preventing me from thinking clearly. I also have a permanent sore
throat which makes my voice sound very hoarse. I am just wondering if
these symptoms and other minor ones will clear up with the thyroxine
and how long will it take before I notice any difference.
Also, is there any vitamins/minerals I should take now?
Look forward to any help.
Many thanks
Biloo

RE: [hypothyroidism] Newly diagnosed - advise needed please

2007-01-19 19:03:10

Sharon and Biloo:
If you wish to be treated with drugs for the rest of your life, while your
thyroid gland deteriorates, then consider the suggestions in Thyroid Disease
101.
If you wish to find a program that
1-allows you to take control over your own health
2-indicates how you may restore natural thyroid function
3-how you may totally avoid drugs / synthetics
4-use a protocol by which hundreds of folks have been able to restore
thyroid function naturally and/or eliminate synthetics...
Then go to www.thyrodine.com and download the FAQ..frequently asked

cytomel

2007-01-19 13:50:43

hello
does anyone know where i can find out what the average dose of cytomel is
and what the range of doses would be? right now i am taking 25micrograins,
up from 5mcg with my last prescription, and the doctor is saying that he
will probably double it again or increase it to 75. the ease with which he
is doubling, quadrupling, etc. my dosages is making me wonder if the usual
dosage is a lot higher than i am currently taking.....

Fwd: Afghanistan war on women

2007-01-19 03:24:08

Please do not ignore this email. This
is something that we as human beings
need to support - I don't know if this
is going to help but take 3 minutes
out of your life to do your part.
Madhu, the government of Afghanistan,
is waging a war upon women.
Since the Taliban took power in 1996,
women have had to wear burqua and have
been beaten and stoned in public for
not having the proper attire, even if
this means simply not having the mesh
covering in front of their eyes.
One woman was beaten to death by an
angry mob of fundamentalists for
accidentally exposing her arm while
she was driving. Another was stoned
to death for trying to leave the country
with a man that was not a relative.
Women are not allowed to work or even
go out in public without a male
relative; professional women such as
professors, translators, doctors,
lawyers, artists and writers have been
forced from their jobs and stuffed
into their homes.
Homes where a woman is present must
have their windows painted, so that
she can never be seen by outsiders.
They must wear silent shoes so that
they are never heard. Women live in
fear of their lives for the slightest
misbehavior. Because they cannot work,
those without male relatives or
husbands are either starving to death
or begging on the street, even if they
hold PhDs.
Depression is becoming so widespread
that it has reached emergency levels.
There is no way, in such an extreme
Islamic society, to know the suicide
rate with certainty, but relief workers
are estimating that the suicide rate
among women, who cannot find proper
medication and treatment for severe
depression and would rather take their
lives than live in such conditions,
has increased significantly.
There are almost no medical facilities
available for women. At one of the
rare hospitals for women, a reporter
found still, nearly lifeless bodies
lying motionless on top of beds,
wrapped in their burqua, unwilling to
speak, eat, or do anything, but slowly
wasting away.
Others have gone mad and were seen
crouched in corners, perpetually rocking
or crying, most of them in fear. One
doctor is considering, when what little
medication that is left finally runs out,
leaving these women in front of the
president's residence as a form
of protest.
It is at the point where the term
"human rights violations" has become
an understatement. Husbands have the
power of life and death over their
women relatives, especially their wives,
but an angry mob has just as much right
to stone or beat a woman, often to death,
for exposing an inch of flesh or
offending them in the slightest way.
Women enjoyed relative freedom, to
work, dress generally as they wanted,
and drive and appear in public alone
until only 1996.
The rapidity of this transition is the
main reason for the depression and
suicide; women who were once educators
or doctors or simply used to basic
human freedoms are now severely
restricted and treated as subhuman in
the name of right-wing fundamentalist
Islam. It is not their tradition or
'culture', but it is alien to them,
and it is extreme even for those cultures
where fundamentalism is the rule.
Everyone has a right to a tolerable
human existence, even if they are
women in a Muslim country. If we can
threaten military force in Kosovo in
the name of human rights for the sake
of ethnic Albanians, citizens of the
world can certainly express peaceful
outrage at the oppression, murder and
injustice committed against women
by the Taliban.
STATEMENT:
In signing this, we agree that the
current treatment of women in Afghanistan
is completely UNACCEPTABLE and deserves
action by the United Nations and
that the current situation overseas
will not be tolerated.
Women's Rights is not a small issue
anywhere, and it is UNACCEPTABLE for
women in the year 2000 to be treated
as subhuman and as so much property.
Equality and human decency is a RIGHT
not a freedom, whether one lives
in Afghanistan or elsewhere.

(thyroid) doctor called

2007-01-18 13:09:22

He said that anytime your body is fighting anything at all your
sedimentation rate can be off. Since I have constant inflammation in my
shoulder from an old injury years ago and since at the time that he did the
blood work my neck was all messed up and inflamed......the sedimentation
rate doesn't mean much. Thyroid levels can be affected by your body
fighting anything in the body which is why tsh amounts are so unpredictable.
Other tests he has done on my blood work have indicated that a true
hypothyroid problem does not exist but just to be sure he wants to re-test
in November. He wants me to keep my appointment in October for my
cholesterol re-check and see how I am feeling at the time and give me a
cortisone shot in my shoulder to relieve some of the inflammation before
repeating the thyroid tests and sedimentation rate in November. I have to
say that every time I talk to my doctor or see him, I am left with the
impression that he really cares about his patients a lot and is covering all
basis. He makes me feel very comfortable to be his patient.

Re: [hypothyroidism] Digest Number 308

2007-01-18 02:19:05

Hi Sharon! Well about my thyroid medication, I didn't want to take any
drugs soI tried to treat it naturally with kelp, bladderwrack, and some
various other herbal combinations, but I didn't notice any results. So I
went on Cytomel liothrionine (sp) which is T3. It works pretty well for me,
I think. But, if I could treat it naturally I would much rather prefer that,
it seems like it would be better for my body. Good luck! --ana

2007-01-17 18:30:36

I am still waiting for my doctor to call...so I can have the numbers from
the tests he took but.....his letter indicates that he tested me for Lupus
which was negative and my sugar was normal (83). My Thyroid tested
abnormally as well as my sedementation rate. He wants to retest cbc,
sedementation rate, T4 and tsh in November. I'm going to call the office
again and make sure that he knows I want him to call.

The last date was supposed to be 9/97

TSH amounts

2007-01-17 12:18:52

I have not heard from my doctor yet but I called my obgyn and I have tsh
amounts for 4 dates in the past.....was wondering what you guys thought of
these:
1/94 tsh was 5.4
9/95 tsh was 2.9
3/96 tsh was 4.5
9/20 tsh was 3.4
My doctor tested me in March of this year with a physical and then again in
September because my hair is falling out. I do not have those numbers but
know that the test a few weeks ago came back as underactive although he did
not give me the numbers yet....waiting for him to call me. He does not know
about these past tests but....has said that he plans to retest in November
before starting any treatment.....what do you guys think?

hair loss

2007-01-16 20:36:09

hi- just wanted to share what really helped me. I had really horrible hair
loss before I got diagnosed and my hair wasn't super thick to begin with so
I panicked and did tons of research and experimenting with different viamins
and herbs and this is what ended up working the best for me: a good
multivitamin/mineral supplement, extra B vitamins, and the most important
liquid silica, or colloidal silica, or horsetail herb. Then I also used (and
still use) the nioxin line of hair care products. Since then my hair has
totally grown back thicker and longer than ever, except after I had surgery
I noticed it start to fall out again a little but then it was fine. Also,
if I start to slack off on taking my vites and stuff after a couple weeks
I'll notice more hair on my brush and pillow. But as long as I keep up this
regimen, it stays great. Anyway, best of luck and it will get better! Mine
got so fine that you could actually see little patches of scalp and I had to
dab mascara on the scalp so you couldn't tell, and like I said its really
thick and healthy now so there is definitely hope!--ana

Ana, thanks for this info. I'd really like to know whether you are also
taking thyroid medication, or are you relying on natural remedies for your
thyroid problem? - Sharon
